I'm down to the board and the main motor and I still have vibes. When I move the main gear off the pinion the shaft spins perfectly and the servos are very smooth.
I ran the motor by itself and it sounds pretty bad compared to my "well behaved" MCPX. Can a motor cause vibes? I'm guessing "yes"... |

Answering my own question: yes a main motor can indeed cause vibrations that affect tail hold. I put a new main motor in and all of my problems are solved. So if you have vibes don't rule out the main motor!

I had a bent shaft on my main motor too. Just read your post and thought to check it. Held the old motor against a cup of water and spooled it up. You can see the vibs in the water. The new motor showed nothing. Inspected it further and the shaft is slightly bent. Thanks for sharing, never would have thought of that. Tail hold is back and it is smooth flying again.

Amazingly my second MCPX (formerly the incredibly smooth MCPX) is developing problems. I think it needs a motor too! Its doing its random 1/4 turn routine which is either vibes (there are none) or intermittent voltage starvation to the tail. I've got a spare main motor. The thing is about a year old and only has ~40 flights on it, so I'm a bit surprised. There is little question about it though - it has way less "pop" than the one I recently put a new motor in.
I have to get it working again. I don't fly them as much as the BL or the 130's but they are always the first heli's I fly for the day. Fantastic warm up heli's and relaxing to fly, light on crashes due to such little weight. I have solid booms with supports and BL heads on both of them, so they are practically indestructible |
