Default gaui x7 vs compass 7hv

so i asked this in the compass thread and (i hope i am not violating any forums rules) but i wanted to get some gaui guys opinions since a different group of guys hang out in here than in there.

sorry for yet another comparison question, but i am just having a terrible time deciding between 700class helis. there are too many good options!

I have a ton of 6s5300 spyder packs, a beastx, and a few other misc parts that will work on either heli. So does anyone out there have/flown both? how is the battery tray system comparison between the two? parts and finish? i know parts availability for the compass helis is sometimes in question. I would really like to use 696 rail blades. any comparison will be greatly appreciated!

I looked at both, the 7HV is a darn nice machine. Low parts count, simple design. What got me was the belt ( i suck with belts ) and the reports of lower frame damage in common crashes. Seems like every picture of a crash I have ever seen, the lower frames were toast.

It's a personal preference again, I think you will end up with a great heli either way.

thanks chris. the thing i love about the 7hv is that even though the lower frames break often in hard crashes, they are seperate from the upper frames and dont require you to mess with any of the head electronics to replace.

True but why not buy a heli that just doesn't break? Rob put his in at over 100mph. Frames in tact.

id say buy the x7 if you need a over built heli. plus the x7 is eye candy.

kinda makes you want to fly questionably.

Nice shot. Get rid of that blade holder and transmitter (or place it more nicely) and you got a nice wallpaper!

I have both and feel the X7 is a much better built machine. It also cost considerably more, so your budget may be a factor. I bought the 7HV because I got tired of waiting for the X7 and I now wish I had waited and just got the X7.

Don't get me wrong the 7HV is a very nice heli, but just not as good as the X7.

I felt both machines were very high quality and had no serious issues with either, notes about each as follows:

Compass 7HV
1. Would have preferred heli frame not be pre-assembled
2. Tail grips all plastic, flies OK but looks like crap
3. Tail rotor belt driven, with tensioner - would have preferred torque tube (shaft drive)
4. Wide frame design - more room for wiring - less rigid
5. Build Manual C-
6. Nice head deisgn quality alloys used throughout (except plastic tail grips)
7. Big heli easier to see in the air

Gaui X7
1. Most complicated heli I've built,
2. Build of head and links can be kinda fussy (hard to reach areas)
3. Almost no plastic - all carbon and aluminum
4. Tail pitch slider required some work to get smooth
5. Build Manual D-
6. Smaller than most 700's
7. IMO very attractive design and appearance

Just my opinions - in the words of Finless - Your mileage may vary!

I helping a buddy with his and actually thought the build was one of the easiest to date. Even easier then the X5.. The manual was a bit questionable in some areas, but just as good as the rest of them, I have yet to see a perfect manual to date. What one person reads may differ to the next, that is why it is VERY simplified.

Default x7 easy build

If you consider the X7 to be one of the easiest builds you've had I'd like to know what the other builds you've Done. It was the worst one I've ever done. And I have owned and built over 15 different models of RC helicopter now. Don't get me wrong it wasn't an impossible build but it just wasn't a very easy or good build. as far as the helicopter itself it's an amazing machine flies great You'll never complain about that.

I don't see how it could be so hard, direct to swash, a boom and a set of frames with a few boom supports in it, oh and bearing blocks... The head was industry standard as far as assembly, same with the tail, and servo placement was well laid out, Nothing hard. Typical heli build. Almost identical to the X5 and that was simple. Only other bird I thought was easier was the Fusion.

Maybe if a larger percentage of complaints surfaced...

We have to remain objective, every heli has a small percentage of problems, it's inevitable. In the auto industry, the "most reliable car" still has a typical failure rate of some degree.

Also, we can't just observe the initial build, but repairs and rebuilds need to be taken into account as well. My X7 has been a pleasure to build, and rebuilt after a bad crash and yet another crash has yielded great results in repairs.

My build experience...

Gaui X7 (1 rebuild)
Gaui X5 (15 rebuilds)
Protos Mini (2 rebuilds)
ElyQ Vision 50 (2 rebuilds)
Logo 600 (4 rebuilds)
Gaui 200 (5 rebuilds)
Gaui 255 (3 rebuilds)
Protos 500 (40 rebuilds)
Trex 450 Pro (25 rebuilds)

The Trex was by far the worst in my experience, it didn't handle hard crashes very well.
