Default What's the difference between the 400 & 450

I was looking at the two spec sheets. Same motor, same size main blades, same length.
Other than gyro and servo's, what is the difference?

larger tail boom diameter, new tail case/tail end, slightly different frame with one more mainshaft bearing, new one way bearing, a few new parts on the head, aluminum head block. Blade says it is a "completely new heli" which I believe is bs. They took the 400 and improved(who knows yet?) on some of its weaknesses.

I was on a website that shows all the parts for both heli's. It looks like a majority of the part numbers are the same.. So, I'm wondering if anyone has calculated what it would cost to turn your 400 into a 450 mechanically... Minus electronics since most of us will be OR already are using high end electronics....

I did, it comes out to over $200. A complete waste imo when you can get a bare bones mini protos with the scorpion motor for $300. Thats what I did and this thing kicks the B400's a_s_s. If you already have the electronics upgraded like I did its time for a real machine!

Hi,
Looks like the Blade 450 will be out very soon.

As a start to answer your question, let me address some of the mechanical aspects.
The 450 is clearly based on the strengths of the B400, but is very much a new machine based on the same concept. If you look at the number of new parts (and the key 'tooled' ones), this will be clear.
Much of the new work was done with the goal of making it stronger and stiffer, more agile, with the ability to handle more power, with less vibration, while keeping the weight quite low in the class. Some changes to this end (partial list):
-Larger diameter tail boom.
-New frames to hold larger boom and a few tweaks (easier servo fitting, more servo arm clearance, etc)
-New material and precision ground main shaft with step
-larger diameter stepped spindle.
-Metal head block
-New blade grips to work with new spindle (with thrust bearings)
-Stronger wood main blades (batteries have improved a lot, so more power)
-Stonger tail shaft
-New tail gear box and hub to support this change
-stiffer two sided supported tail pitch adjust bellcrank
-new tail blade grips with thrust bearings!!
-weighted tail blade grip (weight mod) for low servo loads and rapid response

Other Mechanics:
New simple, tough, and light one peice main landing gear.
New Canopy
Tail servo mounted to tail boom only.
Inverted V flybar cage for more available cyclic control
Improved mixing arms
"Vented' fins for better 3D
New FB paddles for more weight flexibility
More erongomic canopy mounting system
70 or 80 hardness damper availibility

Hope this helps!

Have Fun,
David

Just to tag onto the above, since I apparently do not have a signature setup here yet...
(Tail box is really for the belt drive... not gears... just old habits! Needed for larger Boom as well as larger shaft/bearings)
