well a good laugh is all that i can do
i wanted back into the heli world, so i joined the top two heli forums to find out what the latest and greatest was...
now my t-rex 700 is ready to fly. but there are a few... 1) main gear is prone to stripping 2) clutch is known to break 3) ball links fail 4) bearing block needs replaced because the bearings will come loose. 5) swash plate may become sloppy 6) shoulder bolts suck. 7) torque tube gear strips 8) fuel tank leaks 9) the balls are to soft of metal, they will deform i was going for 10 but had to stop and take an antidepressant. |

Just relax and have fun. I think that the majority of people have no problems at all and are not the ones posting in the forums. I don't want to minimize the problems because they do happen but I don't think it is as widespread as you might believe from reading here.

18 gallons so far and items I have had to replace due to wear 4 ball links, one clutch, one main gear, and fuel tubing. Alot of problems (not saying all) with this machine can be traced back to user/builder error.

Stop worring about the "what if's" and fly and enjoy the heli. Keep in mind the amount of reported issues is only a fraction of the amount of kits they have sold. It's not guranteed your kit will have any or all of those issues.

1) main gear is prone to stripping...True in some cases
2) clutch is known to break...wrong, they clutch might break. 3) ball links fail...wrong 4) bearing block needs replaced because the bearings will come loose...wrong 5) swash plate may become sloppy...wrong, the links will get sloppy over a long period of time 6) shoulder bolts suck....wrong, they stick to the frame and may not come out if you werent light on the threadlocker. 7) torque tube gear strips... if you hit the tail good on the ground then yes 8) fuel tank leaks...no problem with the fuel tank... 9) the balls are to soft of metal, they will deform...wrong |

still running the original main gear
original clutch original bearing bocks swash plate is fine TT gears are good I did have a ball link break. There's no excuse for that. I did get one of the first kits. And Align has addressed the issue. The linkage balls are soft. The ones for tail control, and throttle, are the ones that wear out first. I consider this general wear. Nothing serious that can't be fixed during pre-flight. Upgrading to Quick UK seems to everyones response to that. Replacing the stopper fixes the tank issue The shoulder screws are a PITA if you don't use a quality hex tool (Thorpe-MIP is what I use). And even then, there are some that still have to be dremmeled out. There are a couple of alternatives out there to fix this. Do I regret buying it. NOT AT ALL. People seem to expect every heli to be perfect. That's just not going to happen. These things are mass produced. There are going to be problems..... And then, there is the builder......

I've got about 10 gallons through mine and the only part I've had to replace was the tail shaft as the end sheared off - this is the only instance I've ever seen of this happening. I did fit a full set of Quick UK links & balls but hadn't had any issues with links.
I haven't stripped a single screw and I've replaced the bearings in the main bearing blocks after a crash plus a clutch costs around £11 in the UK and the Quick UK clutch is around £35, I certainly wouldn't fit the Quick UK clutch now and with the life expectancy of the original clutch I'd be flying for quite a while before I've bought enough Align clutches to match up with the cost of the Quick UK version. I'd build it stock from the box and fly it, no worries.

i will fly and enjoy guys. i assumed it could not really be all that bad. i sure did enjoy how it went together.
weather is looking like mid 50's here tuesday. if i can get my water softener in without flooding the basement today the mrs. says i can have tuesday to myself. ohhhh there is one little legitimate gripe i have though. have you ever went to remove one of those little clips on the canopy, then heard it tic against the curtains across a room of carpet? |

I"m going to the LHS and buy some pins they sell for RC cars that are bigger and easier to grip

I don't even use the pins. Canopy has not fallen off in flight yet even after many high speed backward maneuvers like tail slides and hurricanes.

Or get two QuickUK canopy posts for the top and leave the stock bottom ones then just two thumbscrews for a guaranteed fixed canopy - I agree with the above sentiments - despite some shortcomings it's fun to build, easy to fix and GREAT to fly

Think of it as an already made pre-flight checklist. Those are the things you will inspect most often (every flight) and most likely not have a problem with.

Well I got to go out and take it up for the first time today. Got to keep in mind I have not flown a heli in 7or so yrs now. On the way to the field I stopped by Orscheln's and picked up a couple of dowels.
I popped the trex into a hover lumber and all and WOW what a stable machine it is. I hovered there about half the tank then WHAM I tilted the nose forward and slammed the full 13 degrees pitch, LOL. What a beast. I circled around the patch a couple of times then set it down. Took off the sticks, put the canopy on and proceeded to have a hell of a fun day. |

Same old story...
When I bought my 600 the thing was going to fail at any given moment, the 500 was going to short all the electronics due to ESD, the 450 was going to be so unstable, the 250 had the worst tail ever...... AND NOW!!! The 700 is junk too????? Yeah right.
I've got several gallons of fuel through the 600, tons of flights on the 450 a few on the 250 and a lot on the 500. They are all great machines. Especialy for the money! Build it, fly it and enjoy it. These forums can be very helpful. Take the value and go fly! |

Had my 700 from the first batch made.
I fly it every week and spank the arse off it and never had a problem. Replaced a clutch that wore out that's all. Fly it and enjoy it.

700 is a well made heli so stop worrying and start flying. As I have said before, the few people that have problems are very vocal so it seems as though there are major issues. People that are happy are just that, happy. If it breaks, fix it and keep flying.

Yes the 700 is well made. It has proven to be the the most fun, most affordable, and most efficient heli I've owned in 15yr.
All helis have issues of some sort or another and the 700 is no different. But I've said it many times and I'll say it again...build it correctly and you will be rewarded. Although(though not all) of the problems are builder related. Be aware that the vocal minority on these forums can make it sound like the sky is falling while the hundreds maybe thousands of happy owners never make a mention of it. I've been flying mine hard since mid summer as I was lucky to get one at its initial release. It's got more air time this summer and fall than any other heli I've owned. It grounded my 600 and both Fury's. There is no disputing that the Fury's are top quality machines. But that comes with a price in both $$ and time invested. I've spent far more money and time tinkering with them and flown them far far less than the 700 as a result. In my opinion and based on my flight ability, my 700 flys darn near 95% as good as my Furys but I've only invested less than 50% of the time and $$$ to get it there. The result is I fly far more often than ever before and the pay off in my progression is through the roof. Just go fly the 700 and it will put a big smile on your face.
