wassup guys i dont have the phoenix 25 esc yet but its on its way. i need to know what settings will work best with it on a trex 250 with a scorpion 2206-3900 motor, beastx, align ds410m servos, jr ds290g on the tail, and a align head. the programing scenarion seems long and confuseing and any tips will be appriciated but what im really after is the SETTINGS I NEED TO SELECT. but as i said i will appriciate any input.

You need to decide how you are running the ESC--will you be using the governor or not.

See the link above where I tried to give some info on how to use the governor.https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=290375

However if you just want to know how to setup the ESC, I first recommend getting the Castle Link. It makes life a lot easier than using the stick programming.

here is what I use on my Phoenix 25. I'm using governor mode, but the other parameters (PWM rate, spool up speed........) are still valid.

I note I reversed the direction because I soldered my ESC to the motor (ALign) because I was too lazy and cheap to change connectors and just decided to dispense with them. Of course it ran backward , but with the CC ESC, you can reverse the direction in software!

You want to set the PWM rate to 8kHz for the 3900 and low timing

Here are the motor specs:

http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalo...K-2206-3900KV/

motor timing..... 5deg
drive freq...........8kHz

Basically the ESC almost sets itself up.

The key points are the brake must be off and you want an insensitive cutoff. No fun to fall out of the sky!!

I think they will work fine.

Personally I prefer 12kHz for the PWM rate, since these are small motors and the inductance is small, but 8kHz will work great too.

One point is that if you enable autorotate like I did, go and look at the CC videos (under support and then video). It takes a little effort to setup the autorotate--you need to do a throttle calibration.

You are basically setting up a tiny window, just above the "ESC intitalize Off" level (EIOL). If you are ever in the EIOL point (like when you plug in the battery pack), the ESC will use the very slow spool up rate to go from throttle off to your desired head speed. The little window uses the much faster head speed change rate to go from zero rpm to the desired rpm.

The little window allows you to abort a autorotate and get the headspeed back up fast.

That being said, it is probably true that autorotation is a dubious "feature" on the small low inertia 250 blades-- in other words the 250 doesn't really do autorotations well.

I did it to see if I could actually set it up correctly. Haven't actually ever tried to autorotate!

Hex55: 85
Brake Strength: 0
Brake Delay: .3 sec
Brake Ramp: Medium
Cutoff Type: Soft Cutoff
Motor Start Power: 59

Throttle Type: Governor Mode
Throttle Response: 5
Governor Gain: 15
Initial Spool-Up Rate: 5
Head Speed Change Rate: 10
Auto Rotate Enabled: True* -False (no need on such a small bird)
Governor Mode Type: Fixed*-set rpm
Vehicle Setup - Battery Type: LiPo
Vehicle Setup - Number of Cells: 3
Vehicle Setup - Battery Voltage: 11.1000
Vehicle Setup - Gear Ratio: 8.0000* if this is 15t pinion then the below speeds will work
Vehicle Setup - Motor Kv: *3900
Vehicle Setup - Motor Number of Poles: 6
Desired Head Speed 1: *4200
Desired Head Speed 2: *4400
Desired Head Speed 3: *4600
Cutoff Voltage: Auto Li-Po (*)

why have the power on beep disabled and what would the differences in head speed give me? if u can explain please do it would help me out alot and once again i thank all for the input keep it up

I like the beep--reminds me I haven't unplugged the battery yet. I tend to pick up the hei and walk back to the table (in TH of course!), so being somewhat absent minded, I need the reminder once on the table to remove the canopy and disconect the pack (especially last flight of the day).

I am not competent to judge on headspeed differences, except that it depends on how snappy you want the heli to perform. Also higher headspeed means less flying time, for the same style flying.

Not too much, you set most to your liking. What I see is the head sped change rate, the 1st RPM setting and the LiPo cut off voltage. I just posted mine to provide another view of how someone else does theirs.

From the looks of it it should work fine, just view the CC video's on setting up the TH for auto bail out, you probably will not use it but you never know.

I say check your heli out and give her a whirl

for basic flight do not require it but if you want to set the governor up then yes you will need it.

This part is irrelevant - brake is disabled by gov mod:

Hex55: 85
Brake Strength: 0
Brake Delay: .3 sec
Brake Ramp: Medium

Those are pretty much the same for all trex 250:

Cutoff Type: Soft Cutoff
Vehicle Type: Helicopter
Throttle Type: Governor Mode
Governor Mode Type: Fixed
Vehicle Setup - Battery Type: LiPo
Vehicle Setup - Number of Cells: 3
Vehicle Setup - Battery Voltage: 11.1000
Current Limiting: Insensitive
Vehicle Setup - Motor Number of Poles: 6

Those are recommanded but can be played around with:

Cutoff Voltage: Auto Li-Po (*)
Power-On Beep: Enabled (*)
Auto-Lipo Volts/Cell: 3.3 Volts/Cell (i use 3.1)

Those depend on setup:

PWM Rate: 8 Khz (for scorpion, stock is 12)
Vehicle Setup - Motor Kv: 3900 (for scorpion, stock is 3400)
Vehicle Setup - Gear Ratio: 8.0000 (main gear to pinion ratio - MG is 120 stock, pinion is 14T to 16T - 15T stock on SE)
Motor Timing: 5 (idk for sure, id use 5 for both)

Those are preferences:

Motor Start Power: 59 (i use 70)
Throttle Response: 5 (i cant remember - not sure but i think this is deactivated by gov mode)
Governor Gain: 15 ( i use 20)
Initial Spool-Up Rate: 5 (i use 5)
Head Speed Change Rate: 10 (i use 8, 10 is alot imo)
Auto Rotate Enabled: True* (i have it at true but i dont use it since i dont auto rotate yet, has to do with how the motor re-start after seeing a 0 at throttle)

Those are limited by your setup (should stay within 70% and 95%):

Desired Head Speed 1: *4200 (0-30-30-30-30)
Desired Head Speed 2: *4400 (all 70)
Desired Head Speed 3: *4600 (all 100)

Thats good for 15T scorpion. I have 15T stock, so mine are low 3k for normal (75%), 4000 for idle 1, no idle 2. With a scorpion you should have your top head speed at 90-92% (recommanded). But you could have it lower then that depending if you want to 'tame' it a bit or not.

And no, you cant set gov mode with out the link but you can set fixed end points with out it. Im personnally getting a servo wire extention (http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...rodID=JSP98100) to connect in the reciver and have the other end outside the heli where it will plug to the esc, that way i can link it with out taking the heli apart. You ABSOLUTLY need to unplug the esc from the rx for the link to connect.
