The Castle 100 would work, but if you want a governor and don't have a FBL unit with a governor, the Castle governor is not very good. And like you said, you will need an external BEC with the Castle, which is more hassle. The HobbyWing internal BEC is excellent, so there is no need for an external BEC.

I purchased the HW100 V3 today and the scorpion 910 kv as well, this combo will work just fine for me, I did decide to try the 16 tooth first for a pinion though, hoping it won't take to much off the flight time.

Default Best motor for Gaui X5 formula

I use 16t with 523 blades, cc 100A esc, 2450rpm with kbar gov works just fine for me. Flight time 4:30 mild 3d, 30% charge after flight.
I use hw 100a before, but had some problems with internal bec, purchase external 10A bec and 100A esc and this combo works without any issues..

Awesome glad to hear. I still have to buy packs yet for it, but I have a couple that will do to start with. What size packs are you running?

Flyswatter,
I've been using GensAce 3800 from RotorQuest. Working out just fine!

I'm gonna pull the trigger on a new motor with the sales coming up. Anybody recommend a good motor? I've been flying the stock one for 3 years.

Looking at hard 3 d with 2400 rpm

I love KDE motors. I think them and xnova are similar value, power and efficiency in real life. But KDE support is much better.

Never had a KDE BEFORE but am willing to try if there's a good sale!

I D have a Xnova XTS on my logo 700 and love it. Runs cool.

I love KDE too..im a big xnova fan as well..kde's give you more motor wires to work with..when you spin them by hand its like there are no magnets. very smooth.

Plus the KDE motors are lighter. The 550xf 1200kx G3 comes in at 300g. The Xnova 4020 1200kv comes in at 348g (both without wires).

This summer I put in a savox bsm 4750 1200kv. It only weights 270g. I'm able to use the glacier 4400mah and still balance perfectly. At a 2500 head speed, though I could only get 3:30 on my old glacier 4000mah 30c packs (although I think my gearing was a touch tight - I've only had 4 flights on this combo).

Keep in mind that you'll also have to re-gear a 1200kv motor, I'm down to a 14t with the slant gear 120 tooth main gear.

You guys with the KDEs getting the 6. Mm or 5 mm shaft?

Thanks for the weight since I'm right on COG with the stock motor and Gens Ace 4400 packs. My pack can't be moved back anymore to accommodate a nose heavy heli.

You have a link for the slant gear? That's a great idea.

When I couldn't find a straight gear 14t pinion in the US, I ordered one from Gaui.tw. Then I got worried about overseas shipping and got the pinion and slant gear from anythingheli.com:
http://www.anythingheli.com/gaui-x4i...r-aftermarket/

Turns out it only took 5 days from Gaui.tw. So, the first thing I did was throw on the 14t straight pinion. It was pretty loud without changing out my existing main gear (which I had been running stock with a 16t so I probably should have swapped main gears). The slant gear is a bit quieter, but it's not totally broken in yet.

I do have an Agile 5.5 with the KDE xf550 and love that combo too. But in the heat of summer I was over currenting it and had to put on a cc160hv with fan (I had a 120hv before). The KDE does get warmer than the Savox and I usually fly 3 packs back to back, but never had a problem with it. The 160hv esc, though, never gets above 150f.
