The only thing which gives additional clearance for 550 blades is the new rotorhead. It's 15mm higher, which gives more space, but also additional stability. Means the V2 will be less responsive on cyclic.

If this is true then that means I would only need the new frame sides and the new head to convert my X5 Formula to the X5 V2. From the manual all the other pieces look to be the same. I will definitely be taking a closer look at this while at IRCHA.

It looks like that. I've checked the new manual and these were the only parts they changed. But I think the Formula will be more responsive than the V2.
Unfortunatly they didn't change the front torque tube drive. In my opinion this the only weak point of the X5 and tends to strip gears. The X3 and X7 solutions are more durable.

I think it's a bit funny. One of the selling points of the Formula head was that it was 10mm lower than the FES head, if I recall correctly. Looks like they keep bouncing around on how high above the heli the rotor should be.

Just hoping that it's mostly backward compatible with the V1. At first look, it appears to be. THat way I can continue flying what I have for a long time

For those curious, here is a 6S 5000 in the new frame.

If you are at IRCHA, come take a peek!

They are out, but there was a delay in getting them to IRCHA. There is one here that is going to be given away.

I may just get the frame, seeing this. Even though it makes it heavy, I use 5000s from time to time in my X4-II. Would be nice to have some cross use for them

It's a pity that you don't have the space behind the battery any more - I have my FBL there...

I don't know the solutions of the X3 and X7, but today I've stripped the gear of the tail as well. It was brand new (4 flights). So I think as well that this should have been improved with a steel or PEEK-version.

It should, it's about the same size as the Optipower 6S 50C shown in the picture. There was a bit of room around that battery too.

No tail strike and it was the gear in the back. There the mesh is not adjustable...

Me also, proper mesh. But outside temp. was about 30°C and I was doing fast funnels. Then the front gears stripped and the visual inspection after the crash showed something like molten gears

And the result of the TT gears failure was that., the bend tail boom (banana) was the result of going tail first into the ground ..

Guys, I'm a huge Gaui fan, but... why not make the frame where the CG of the battery can be adjusted? New V2 frame limits how far forward the pack can be moved. Also, what happened to running 556mm main blades? Why not make that an option? As well as 570mm blades?

Let's not forget that X5 shares parts with X4, and that means gears. No wonder guys are stripping them. I'm replacing tail gears every few months - they wear.

The V2 needed an X4-like frame and beefier gears and options to run 520 - 570 blades.

Also, I find the gearing too be odd - 15T pinion is too much. Synergy E5 uses 12T pinion.

I'm building an E5 this winter and moving the electronics from X5. X5 is a nice larger 500 with full size servos, but I think I'll pass on the V2.

X5 rocks as a light 500 with full size servos - leave single tail bearing, use ~4100mAh pack and no changes needed. This V2 is just... not here not there. Dunno what they were thinking.

Oh, another thing is servo position - they should extend the servo posts and move the servos away from the frame for fulcrum effect. This will also enable one to remove servos without taking the motor off.

So yes, back to just using the X4 II frame as a starting point.
