Default Heli Safety Sunglasses

So now that the summer is here I was thinking of getting sunglasses for RC specifically. Anyone have any good recommendations for sunglasses under $50 or less?

I did some research and I hear polarized grey or brown tint would be the best. Also I was thinking it would be good to get a pair that is also Z87 compliant. This basiclly means that they are standard work shop safety glasses. So if things go south I don't loose an eye to shrapnel. I'm sure i'll be fine but that would at least make me feel safer.

So grey or brown tint, polarized, Z87 compliant, and under $50. Anyone have any recommendations?

I really know little about good sunglasses, I usually pick $10 ones up at CVS.

Thanks

Go to their online site many safety glasses to pick from. I have pair for grey overcast days that help me see my 450 better. I keep a few different types to use depending on weather.

I'm also wondering this. I wear prescription glasses and gotta get new sunglasses too. Does some kind of tint work better than others? I fly at a field with blue sky, sometimes gray sky and trees all around. I was thinking regular dark brown lenses. But I wonder if I should go with polarisation filter or not. Fear it could hide the rotor disk.

I have a pair from these guys, and they work great. They have several colors depending on which type of sky your typically flying in. I have the goggle kind that will fit over my regular glasses and also block light coming in from the sides. The only downside is looking like a 90 year old when wearing them

Careful with cheap $10 glasses. If they don't have UV protection then they are really bad for your eyes.

I'm gonna look for shooting sunglasses I think that would be the best substitution. I'll post what I find. Thanks.

+1...

Mine arent quite that big, but I wear glasses and was looking at something that would allow me to wear my corrective lenses as well.
I tried a few of the flight glasses and they worked fine.. but I stumbled on a set I found... of all places...a CVS drug store. Polarized, the perfect tint, and fit over my glasses...and changed my flying by a long shot. I literally WONT fly without them, in almost any weather condition. ( Same goes for my big brimmed hat..I'd be scorched by now already this year )
No joke, a good pair of polarized glasses will really make a huge difference in your ability to see whats going on, and for me, I had alot more confidence once I could see ALOT better. ( Orientation at distances, seeing the heli better aginst the sky and backgrounds...etc) Mine are also tinted on the sides so no glare from the side or sun blinding me from the side, and best of all.. no reflections on the lenses from out side.
Best $19.99 I've spent in awhile.

+1000 on the Zurich Extreme Glare Sunglasses!!! I have two pairs for different conditions. They block out bugs and wind from the sides like cheap drug store fitover glasses, but they offer the safety protection from flying parts, carbon fiber bits, and props!! A no brainer. The gentleman who sells them was one of the most polite and informative owners I ever spoke too when I wanted some help choosing for conditions in Minneapolis. I researched a ton on glasses and will always have a set of these.

Which Zurich Style To Choose?
Some questions to consider:

1. What kind of weather do you fly in?
2. Do you fly into direct sun?
3. Are your eyes normally sensitive to bright light?
4. Are you interested in cutting only glare?
5. Or are you interested in seeing colors better on cloudy conditions?

Any chance of a brand name of these or a link to them please?

I use uvex safety glasses I had my script put in them and also photo greys
So when it is dark evening they are clear and then they will darken acording to the light spectrum around you so if you only need a little that is all it gives you but at high noon and really bright they are really dark plus if the heli comes apart they will protect your eyes as best that any safety wear can do

So I did do some research. I was looking for Polarized Safety (Z87.1) Sunglasses that would not break the bank. I feel $50 plus is too much for sunglasses when I already have 20/20 vision.

Here is probably the best link I found:
http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/posagl.html

Here are a few I may pick up on amazon:

1. http://www.amazon.com/Edge-Eyewear-T...d_sim_sbs_sg_6

2. http://www.amazon.com/Edge-Eyewear-T...d_sim_sbs_sg_2

3. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ller=&sr=1-125

So let me know what you think.
Thanks

I'm trying to remember if the american optical flight glasses they've always passed out to service members is Z87 rated. Besides that I've raided everything my dad had during his time in the chair force Great sunglasses, and hard to break. If you bend them, just bend them back into shape. I think American calls them Original Pilot glasses now or something.

Could some IRCHA bound people stop by and check them out and post feedback please?

Thanks!
