Blade 350 QX - highest flight so far - anyone gone higher ?

Make sure to be careful with how high you go. While there is no "rule" per say, it's best not to tempt fate. Manned helicopters can fly down to 500' AGL cross country without breaking any rules. I know you may think that you see them, but I know I can't judge distance very well beyond 500'. Might I suggest you keep it low if there is any other manned air traffic around? Definitely more than 3 miles away from any airport?

I fly for a living and know something this small won't be seen until you hit it. With my hard deck of 500'AGL, might be best to keep these little guys at 400' or lower lest some safety nanny makes a rule up for you guys. Just a thought.

I'm the dot on the right side of the lower field. The other dot was a guy on a ride on mower, upper field. Any guesses on altitude?

If you were flying in Smart mode, and were at full up stick, that number would be fairly accurate since Smart mode is set to hold at a max height of 45 meters.

That is cool it has a ceiling on it in smart mode Cant wait until I get mine...but it looks like it will be next Tuesday

I was judging by heights i used to jump off of things...that view is similar to the lowest I have ever jumped from a cliff. Though it has been almost 8 years since i have done anything like that so I could be a bit off...

Damn! that's a bit on the low side to get a chute open!

Just be aware that the FAA expects model aircraft to be no higher than 400 feet if you are within 3 miles of any airport. It is also advisable to keep under 400 feet if you are in any area of significant general aviation traffic.

Also keep in mind that the AMA was very successful in convincing the government that the RC modeling community has, and shall continue to be, capable of self-administration and did not require any additional language be written into the recently signed-into-law FAA reauthorization bill. Let's not stir that pot again by being irresponsible quad, heli, or other model pilots.

As a general aviation pilot myself, I totally agree with all of what you said. I'm not sure how many of the general public know of aviation rules, but in populated areas, the floor is 1000' agl and for unpopulated areas, the floor is 500'. The 400' "rule" is that way for a specific reason. I know even though the 350qx looks small, if I hit it in a Cessna 172 going 120 knots, It would sure cause damage!

Similar, not quite that low and when near, it was a must for pilotchute assist. Though mainly I jumped from 250ft+ objects.

Too bad we didnt have this 350qx back then as I would have been able to get some really nice shots...oh well.

Looking forward to getting my own pictures with my 350qx next week while I stay safely on the ground.
