Default Stumped on motor and esc choice

I just cant decide. There are alot of options, here are some of my choice for combinations so far. I've had the HK4530-540 and it was awesome....Looking for opinions so chime on

Scorpion 4530-500 Limited Edition / Scorpion Commander 160esc
Xnova 4530-525 / YGE 160 or 200esc
Pyro 750-500 Competition / Kosmik 160 12s
Pyro 850-500 Competition / Kosmik 200 14s

3 Blade setup - possible 2 blade conversion

I'm running the HK4530-450 LE with the Scorpion 160a but on 14s in my 770 and it has plenty of pull, both as a 2 blader and now with the 3 blade head and 730's. Doesn't run too hot either, the ESC comes down cool and the motor warm.

I am planning on going back to 12s with the setup for F3C Competion as the rules say max 12s, I am guessing the components will get a bit hotter and I will loose a bit of power but I can always swap the motor out for the 500kv and get some back.

The YGE 160 will run all those motors.

Thank you for all of the replies. After much more debating and research I've decided to go Kontronic. Although I agree all of these are good choices and more than likely could not feel the difference, this is my last 700 and Ive always wanted premium stuff.

Pyro 750-500 Comp. with kosmic 160 ? or 200 ?
Pyro 850-500 Comp. with Kosmic 200 ?
12s or 14s ? ................ trying to draw the line somewhere so I can pull the trigger.

Seems like a sweet setup. You will enjoy it!

Doesn't make sense to spend that kind of money on kontronik and run 12s. 14s all the way.

Agreed. You can run 12S with a much cheaper setup and get the same result (ie Castle 160 and Quantum motor).

Another fantastic 12S setup is YGE/Scorp/Vbar Gov (you can run 14s with YGE as well). I've seen that in person and it absolutely ripped.

If spending the dimes on Kontronik, 14S.

Yep, Yge160 here on 14s with the Kde gen 3. Blows my Kontronic motor out of the water at half the price. I now run that 800 series KT in my Triabolo since it is the weaker motor, also on 14s with a Yge160. I do have to say the Kontronik is much more efficient though, but still a good work horse. Both esc's come down barely warm no matter how hard I fly.

if your running 12s cheap and awesome combo is castle 160 edge with quantum motor. i know it sounds like a noob setup but ive been flying original of these parts for 2 years with over 1200 flights a year and they are great. powerful, efficient, run cool, and new edge series is awesome. love the gov too.

I run the Scorpion 160A ESC on 3 of my goblins (770, 700 & Speed), and it handles them all really well & never had a problem with them.

One thing to consider it what you want to do in the future with your ESC's as I think its really nice to have an ESC that is capable of 14s even if you are running a 12s setup (which I do on 2 of them), whereas with the castle ESC your limited to 12s max....

Motors wise I run the KDE 700XF 505kv on the 770 and Speed and the 700xf 535kv on the 700 (3 blade)....I love KDE motors, they just have mega power...

The 535kv version is smaller then the 505kv but it fits under the canopy unlike the larger one and after trying it with a 3 blade heli it still has plenty of power for the heli, although when you are using these type of big powerful motors and ESC's setup's it really eats into the flight time so bear that in mind....

I ended up going with the Kosmic 160 and Scorpion 4530-540 on 18T.
I had The same motor with a Jive 120 on a previous goblin and it was a great performing couple. The scorpion motor does run HOTTER than most of the other choices. I also got the heat sink motor mount to help a little. If I can get 3:30 out of 1950rpm, I'll be happy and suprised. Im not a smack pilot but I do push on the collective

I have a Rush 750 with a KDE 700xf 495 and get 4mins at 1950. My Goblin with the Quantum 4530 500 at 1950 can get 4:45 and come down same voltage as Rush. At 1950 you should be able to pull decent flight times. It's when I crank my HS up to 2100-2200 that the flight times really drop. I've done over 5mins with the goblin at 1800.
Both using CC 160hv Ice2 without issues.

I'm trying a Scorp 160 now. Frustrated with YGE and Kontronik. :-)

Couple questions:

- What BEC are you running?
- Which governor?
- General thoughts.. are you happy with it? How does it compare to Kosmik?

I need to add here, ONS is in my op one of the top 3% or so of pilots that can and do push their helis at a higher level. My own preference for YGE and such comes from the fact they are basic and simple, allowing also for an outside gov and able to be tailored to virtually any motor. Kontronik has a long history of not playing well with other brand motors. Just had that nightmare in my lap. Although I still drool over their esc's. Red, you can't go wrong if you run their complete system! The K200 pushing the 850C is just fantastic if you are spending that kind of $$$.

I had a Scorp esc that I just couldn't get to fire up correctly and gave up on it myself. It is gathering dust.
