I know this is a matter of opinion, so what's yours? What do you prefer to run on a 700 size electric heli, a 2S LiPo, a BEC, some combo?

Run these on both 700's and my 800, BLS275/276 w/CGY750's on all. Flawless to date.

Use to run a 2s lipo, was a pain. The bus system on this BEC eliminates any bottlenecks, and ensures full power to all servos. Only caution is to be sure it has proper ventilation.

Power consumption from 12s 5000 = app. 10-15 seconds less flight time.

I use the Align/HW ESC's BEC and an Optipower Ultraguard as backup for my 700X.
From what I heard the Hobbywing BEC is very good and most fly their t-rex with just that but the Ultraguard is very light and easy to install. It is worth it to me to invest those few grams for a bit more safety.

I use 2S or BEC on different birds, don't have a problem with any of the solutions. I do feel 2S is a little bit safer, as a main pack connector can get unsoldered in flight.

BEC + backup seems like an expensive hassle to me, have not tried it.

I've been thinking about this a lot recently, I'm building a 700n and not too sure which way I'm going. It's got some power hungry ds8717's. I'm thinking of going with a 2s life battery, most likely to a buss bar to avoid taxing the FBL buss and having brown outs.

I will likely get some brushless HV servos later on and go 2s lipo, but it's a ways off. I generally like to keep things simple, less to go wrong that way. Electric would be another story.

The option for ESC with internal BEC seems to be missing? That's what I run most of my big helis on. (Hobbywing ESC's or Align rebranded version)

On my 700's and bigger always use a 2s Lipo or LiFe with voltage telemetry and alarms. A 2s pack is a reliable solution and the telemetry means you can never take off without a charged pack. I feel adding backup guards to this increases the complexity with very little improvement in reliability.

2S lipo directly connected to the power bus on the Beastx HD on both 600 and 700 size. Only the my 380 size uses the Hobbywing bec.

He means a BEC with an Optipower 'Ultra-Guard 430' (or similar) backup power supply.

Why not power the BEC from the main flight battery?
That's why they are called 'Battery Eliminator Circuits'.. They are intended to eliminate the need for a separate Rx battery.

Two different things. A Bec is supplying power by lowering voltage from lipo votage to 6 to 8.4volts. Usually you can set the voltage yourself.
This can either be done by buying an ESC with built in BEC like the Hobbywing 130A. Align ships these with thewir super combo for example.

You can also use an ESC without BEC and buy a separate BEC that does the same.

The UPS backup is a separate device with a built in small lipo that detects when the voltage is sagging. In that moment it feeds power from the small lipo. That way the heli does not loose connection in case of catastrophic powerloss by the ESC/BEC. I use an Optipower Ultraguard for that but there are other ones too i guess. Costs about 45 $ wich does not seem much especially when talking about 600 or 700 sized helicopters.
It does charge itself from the lipo so it is really pretty damn foolproof.

If it only needs to switch on once it has paid itself many times.

But i've never had a BIG ESC with internal BEC.
