Certainly, if it moves, lubricant will help it! (Servos nearly always come pre-lubricated, so don't lubricate them. I guess the servo manufacturers think it is a good idea....as far as I am aware, they have been doing it for over 40 years...)

The main areas that will benefit are the areas that take the most loading; main gear, shaft bearings (main and tail). I like to try and work some into the swash as well. These are the parts that move continuously and can cause the highest loading for the motor. On a belt driven tail, I would also use a silicone on that, to keep the belt supple. There is an argument that it can help reduce static build up as well, which can cause glitching..

As for which lubricant....yep, pretty much any semi or fully synthetic will do it in terms of plastic and metal compatibility. There is not normally any silicone rubber on a heli (you don't want to put silicone lube on silicone rubber; it will swell up), so silicone is normally OK. I use Molykote PG65; one tub will last you a lifetime!

Wow, there is a LOT of information in this thread. At the risk of being a complete newbie, maybe the next time someone lubricates their HB they could take a few pictures and put them in here with a few words like lubricate here, don't lubricate here, etc. Pictures are worth a thousand words especially for clueless folks like me.

Luke, great job. I learned more about grease in 10 minutes than I ever thought possible!

Luke, just to let you know that your information is still being appreciated. Thank you.

I think that thread should be a sticky in all Helicopter support forums on Helifreak. Many of us (including me) are using WD40 causing plastic parts to fail....

Mine should appear in around 2 weeks - retiring early because I had a decent offer for my business.

Just can't wait to have spare cash and time available for helis again. Want to fly 3D with HBFPs.

Better warn the UK suppliers to build up stocks of spares.

I personally wouldn't use graphite as a lube..but a straight liquid....i think if the graphite got into any bearings it may be an issue..hoping someone can confirm?
