spektrum dx7s problems
Hi all
I Wasn't sure where to post this. I have a dx7s and have been using it as a master controller paired with a dx8, on Sunday the slave dx8 failed to keep control of a heli we were flying and the heli was safely recovered by the dx7s. it appears that the comms between the dx7 and dx8 failed. The voltage of the dx7s was 4.5 and the dx8 was 10.4, one is nimh powered and the other is nicad. Has anyone else suffed this problem. |

Yes, people at my field have not been able to use trainer on a DX8/DX7s combo at all. They just use DX8/DX8 or DX7s/DX7s.

DX8 to DX7 here and it cost me a 700N crash. The DX8 was the master and every now and then it would beep and the screen would go blank. When this happened, the heli will do a quick and nasty pitch pump.
Sent the DX8 in to Horizon and they could not find anything wrong with it, but replaced the trainer switch "just in case". I just tried it yesterday and it is working fine.

In the case of using the Trainer function I generally hear that any mono cable will work because they are all the same and the factory cable costs too much.Buy one from HK for 2 bucks. And then they blame the radio when they have issues.

What doesn't make sense? His DX7s was the master and the DX8 the slave... DX8 failed... But DX7s was able to maintain control of heli, since it was the master. Did I not get that right?

In many cases yes.The shape of the tip and the specific lengths of the profiles.

From my original statement I was also eluding to the fact that the DX8 most definitely doesnt run at 10.4 volts unless you have somehow sandwiched the wrong pack into it.
Neither one uses a NiCad pack.Something is not right about the whole original statement.

spektrum problems
Hi all sorry for a late reply. The dx7s was the master, and the dx8 was the slave. This is an early dx8 and indicated voltage on the display was 10.4 v. The dx8 lost the ability to control the heli and when my mate who was holding the dx7s let go of the training button he instantly had control over the heli and flew it back with no problem. We had also had an issues where the slave dx8 wouldn't spool up the heli.

In regular operation you didnt state if it was ok and then all of a sudden lost control or if it lost control immediately after engaging Trainer function.Exactly what setting are you using in the Master and what configuration are you using for the slave? Are you using an OEM cable or just a generic 1/4 mono cable? Did you check the function of all controls before actually flying?

spektrum problems
Right back to the start.
DX7s as master all programmed by my friend who has done this many times before and buddied many people before. The setup we're using hasn't altered from the day we started flying using the dx7s and the dx8 buddied together and from day one no issues. We had already flown at least 6 batteries out that day with only one issue and that was where the slave controller wouldn't spool up the heli. This fault disappeared and all was good. I Took off the heli and had been flying it using the slave controller (dx8) for about 2.5 minutes, then when I tried to pull the nose of the heli up, the heli appeared to not respond, so I pulled back on the elevator and punched the throttle! nothing, the controls were totally dead, at that point I ask my buddy to get control of the heli with the master controller (dx7s). Hope this explains it better. |

What cable are you using? I guess if you didnt do the setup programming you cant relay what the settings are. Theres obviously some kind of confusion going on here.
Im still trying to wrap my head around how you came up with 10.4 volts for the DX8. Its difficult to try to find a solution without details especially when some just dont make sense. What Im trying to determine is if your using P-Link and a blank memory or P-master and a model copy and what specific settings you have for Trainer on both radios. It kind of sounds like there is a problem with the DX8 possibly in the Trainer socket. This may be caused by an incompatible cable.DX radios can be finicky about what cable you use. They arent all created the same despite what many will claim.Using the wrong one can also damage the socket in the Tx.

Ok.If your using p-link master you want to Slave set on a blank model memory with Trainer Inh. It really kind of sounds like he needs to send his DX8 in to be checked.Send the cable that was being used along with it.

Thanks for that, I just spoke with him and your spot on, model is set blank, trainer on inh. Well use his dx18 next time. I don't need to park my align 500 into the ground because of a duff lead or controller.
Thanks for your help. |
