Default Does Stab affect gyro performance

I broke off the stab that extends below the tail boom on my Trex 600, and I am waiting on a replacement. Now my 401 gyro does not hold. Could the absence of the stab explain it? Or, do I need to troubleshoot other possibilities?

The stabilizer missing should itself not cause the gyro to not hold the tail. The stabilizer really only helps force the heli to turn during forward flight from my experiences. More than likely the tail hit something either when the stabilizer broke in the first place or sometime after that since it would be easier to hit the tail in the dirt without the stabilizer. Is there any noticeable virbration on the tail when spooled up? I would make sure the tail shaft is not very slightly bent causing vibration that is giving the gyro difficulty in holding the tail.

I would think there would be very slightly more hold power because there would be less disruption of the airflow through the tail blades.
