Default S9254 burnt a 60A ESC, WTF??!!

So I just bought a used S9254 tail servo from the classified section and swapped it out on my Atom 500 with the DS520 that I was previously using. I have a step down regulator and everything hooked up the S9254 instead of the DS520 on my Atom on my hobbywing 60A ESC that came with the kit and the ESC fried!

Just as I was going to test it out and place the servo horn, as soon as I applied power...poof, the ESC fried. It's pretty crazy because the motor wasn't even plugged in. I've had ESCs fry because of the motor (cough* Trex 600 ESP cough"), but never just because of servos.

I tried to test out the S9254 using a BEC and noticed that it got really hot and the lights would flash when I tried to move the rudder. To be more specific, the BEC has lights to indicate voltage level and with any other servo the lights don't twitch, but with this servo, the lights twitch when I apply any signal change.

So has anyone seen this before? I've never fried an ESC with a servo alone. I bought this used, so I may be SOL, but I hope that's not the case.

It sounds like you have got a burned out servo to me.
I was running the same servo of a 40A Hobbywing internal BEC on 3S fore allmoust a year and now the same servo have been running from a Turnigy 3A continues Ubec since last summer on 4S setup on a Trex 450.
Have never had problem with heat in my systems.

Yep, sounds like it over amped the BEC in the ESC and fried the BEC.

That's what I thought, thanks guys. Well this is the first time I purchased something second hand on a forum and it turned out being complete crap. I'll PM the seller and see if they will do the right thing. I suppose with all the good deals I've gotten, one of them has to fall through.

Well I got a hold of the guy who sold me the servo and I'm sending it back to him today for a refund. He was pretty cool about it. Tried to send an e-mail to hobbywing to see if I can get help on the ESC, but I'm not sure that will happen.

So, the ESC with the burned BEC inside....do you guys think I can just get and external BEC and still use the ESC? Has anyone fried the internal BEC like this before and used the ESC still?

Hope you get your money back.

As for the ESC, I'm pretty sure it's toast because most ESCs require power from their internal BEC to run.
