R90 Tail servo problem
Guys - I am re-building my 90 after a recent Align 2in1 failure/brown-out
I want to put the tail servo up front as it is getting caked with fuel residue, but the control rod touches the main drive wheel when the servo horn is 45 degs from vertical. This won't work - so, any ideas or work-arounds please? It is the CF frame-set SE version. Many thanks Keith

How is that possible?
There are guide holes in the frame spacers that should route the control rod above the main gear. Are you using the stock TT R90 rudder control rod (2 pieces)? On a related note: Use the R90 G4 control rod coupler instead of the one that came with the R90 "classic". BTW: I too have the TR caked a oil after every flight. But, I can't move it back to the front because I use the push-pull collective bellcrank upgrade. That takes the space the rudder servo would normally use. I use a paper towel to clean up the airframe at the end of the day - and the servo gets extra attention. |

The only frame spacers are on the boom mount (just before the rod bends) and in the rear section of the CF frame. From there to the front-sited servo, there's no support. Here's a video of what I mean (hopefully!)
I always give the airframe a good clean after flying, but the residue gets into the servo case so much that it oozes out when you squeeze it. I could wrap the servo in tape or something I suppose - it's an Align DS620 & they have no rubber seals. I have Futaba servos on my R50 and the tail is sealed up & fine. I have the push-pull fitted to that as well, so my tail has to be boom mounted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv314...ature=youtu.be Keith

R90 Tail Servo Problem
Pick up a couple of rod guides for the Raptor 60. Check out "Heliproz" or "Ron's Heliproz South". Part#PVO241/Rod Guide Collars:/Raptor 60/;code AcePVO241. Place these where they would go with the standard frame. Take note of proper orientation on the frame. This will space the push rod properly.
I also have carbon frames and use these collars for the front mounted rudder servo. I hope this is of some small help Regards

Thanks Lamar - that is a great help.
Is there any way you could post a photo of how you have them fitted? That would clinch it then. Many thanks Keith

The R90 G4 coupler is better.
The R60 / R90 "classic" is failure prone. |

R90 Tail Servo Problem
Keith T
O.K. Here you go http://manuals.bobbico.com/ttr/ttre0090-manual.pdf The Raptor 90SE utilizes carbon frames. Page 14 of the 90SE assembly shows these "Guides" (item #7) and their proper orientation. While this does in fact "Space" the frame. It's purpose is to give the push rod, for a front mounted rudder servo, a "Guide" to keep it away from the main gear. I have several Raptor 90's and have never had one of these parts, coupler or guide, "Fail" for any reason. The key to the coupler is : 1.) use blue locktite on the set screws. 2.) make sure the two push rods are inserted equally into the coupler touching each other. 3.) do not over tighten the set screws to the point of stripping. I hope this is of some small help Regards

Yes, I've had a few Raptors too.
Now, the subject has shifted from the frame spacer / rod guides to the joint coupler that connects the front TR control rod to the back. http://www.ronlund.com/rcheli-prod/T...ACEPV0168.html The rod joint (item 8, part number BK105 on page 32 of your R60 manual) fails. I don't like it. I changed to the R90 3D / SE servo mount, but I know the G4 uses the front mounted servo. And they use a different rod joint. http://www.ronlund.com/rcheli-prod/T...ACEPV1588.html I like this one. Unfortunately, I can't find just the rod joint - it seems to come in the tail rotor control rod set only. Last edited by ticedoff8; 02-28-2013 at 11:02 PM.. |

Thanks fellas
The guide is fitted and works. The clearance is only a whisker, but that's enough to do the job! Keith
