BL500MX brgs.
Is it "normal" for this motor to have failed bearings after two dozen flights? (Its the smaller of the two bearings that failed.)I have the brg/shaft kit on order but wondering if its real common.

I haven't heard of too many failures.

I had motor bearing in a MX700 motor after only 6 flights, it happens. Unless you ran a long time after it failed most likely the shaft would be good an it will only require replacing the bearings. Three sources are bocabearings.com
avidrc.com rcbearings.com

I bought the ALIGN kit with the new shaft, just thought it was odd on a new motor so soon.

If it's a new motor you should t have to pay to fix it. Contact the place you bought the kit from.

No, it is definitely not normal, personally I would return it for replacement.

The motor was purchased from an e-bay seller (brand new taken from a kit) "never used". I paid $40 for it, no big loss and not worth the hassle for a replacement.

I had 2 Align motors that froze on me, a 500L and a 500MX. Replaced it with Scorpion motors and never looked back. I don't trust any Align motors anymore. Been flying with Scorpion 3226 1600kv and 3226 1400 kv on both of my Trex 500 pro dfc and I don't worry anymore of the motor freezing up on me. Both times the motors froze, the Naza H was able to auto the heli. It landed hard but was upright in ATTI mode.

Bearings are in and all is good. Does anyone know if I should take it easy for "break in"?

I've never worried about breaking in bearings... but that's not really saying much!
