Default Did I fry my BeastX?

To make a long story short, had an issue with the motor on my new 6HV build. When I powered up the heli spun the motor up on the bench, poofs of smoke started coming out. Come to find out, the motor windings were shorted to the can and apparantly the motor sent power through the grounds of all my electronics. The damage as far as I can tell is a ESC, cyclic servo and my tail servo. My AR7200bx seems to have survived, but was just wondering if there was any way to test it to be sure. Wouldn't I get errors on the self test at power up if anything in it were fried?

You should get errors yes. Be very carefull on first few test flights. Maybe put BX on a cheaper heli for testing?

I dunno, Mini tital fairly cheap for parts, so is the protos. never owned a Compass so not sure what crash parts cost for it. Just bench test and tripple check.

See my post... I saw wires touching in the 6hv motor, sounds like this is what happened to you

I don't see any wires touching inside the can. It spins freely, so I don't think anything is stuck in there. Beautifully designed kit with nice quality. Bummer that one defective item can cause so much damage.

Put the beastx back on my Mini Protos, and took it for a test hover, and it seemed to be flawless as usual. I'm about to take it out to the field and get it dialed back in. Anyways. so far, so good.

The HW70 on the compass is opto-coupled, how on earth did you damage your other electronics with an esc failure ?

It was a motor failure. The windings were shorted to the motor can. There are burn marks on my Frame and motor mount where the voltage jumped to the frame and traveled through to my metal cased Torq tail servo into my BeastX and then onto the elevator servo.. I'm suprised that it didn't fry everything.

BTW. the test on the mini Protos went well. Nothing out of the ordinary going on with the beast.

In addition to the lively smoke and spark show, it was also making some very cool arcing sounds. All this 12 inches from my face from the comfort of my own home.
