Default Motor temp.

Hey Guys,

I've just been hovering my new EFL pro for about the third flight. I had the canopy off, a slightly faster throttle curve than the book says, turnigy 4000mah batteries. All the rest stock.

After about 4-5min I parked it and felt the top of the motor and it's almost too hot to touch..
I was really only hovering but did the occasional pitch pump for a sec to maybe 50ft..

Just interested in your experiences ?? Ambient air temp was about 37deg c or 100 F (yeah it's hot in Perth west oz...)

At 37°C ambient temperature it's absolutely ok if you can't touch the motor after flight!

*brrrr* 37 deg is far to hot for me, ambient temperature here in bavria is -7 °C (goes down to -15 deg at night)

I have been analyzing the same thing; and here in Dubai flying at 35-37C my motor and ESC get quite hot. So, after flight I measured 60C for the ESC and 75C for the motor. I am flying a scale MD500E with a 600E mechanics inside, and was very worried about just burning it up. Using 5000 mAh 35C with very mild flying for 5 minutes. Now I made larger vent holes, opened up the doors, and increased cooling. Also will try lower head speed (now it is about 1970 rpm @ idle..) to see how that works. Have been unsuccessful in finding threads/topics on headspeed vs. temps, although it must be out there. Good luck and stay cool !

My ESC doesn't get super hot, but the motor will. I'm in Georgia, and it's about 90 degrees during this time of year. Running some light 3D and heavy sport flying, the motor is too hot to touch for more than 3-4 seconds or so. In the winter, it doesn't get so hot, but from now until about September, it will be scorching after every flight. I usually allow a 10-20 minute cool-down break between flights this time of year.
