Default It's not my week!

26 mins flying with the new swash, I had a dumb thumb moment and give the heli a dirt nap!

Guess what broke? The FIFTH Align swash! I guess it wasn't the swash's fault, but it cost me $2 a minute flying!

Sheesh!

At last, some sympathy. Reciprocated!

You gotta remind yourself it's just coincidence. Not personal... The universe doesn't care.

Sympathy ?
Is this all you wanted in this thread ?

Or did u want tips ?

To me it looked (as I read, Please do not take offence here)
U over tightened
I have also Bra (Not on the swash but other heli's and parts and screws)
Shite happens man I have and Now You'll learn too

I got an 500L too , also a 550L that flies on 6S & 8S with a Scorp 890 Kv and a CC 120 HV , Got the SK gov set for the appropriate battery & RPM

Now I had so many options with the Scorp 890 Kv , but yet I still wanted to run it on 6S so I needed to gear this correctly

Never did a swash in but did pop the DFC links alot

So I went for the 600 Pro Helical gear of 118 and pinion 13T , But needed the KDE adjustable motor mount with the 13T Pinion to get the gearing more to my liking and my RPM of choice .

But the point that brought this thread to my attention

Was ur Swash prob.

On the 500L after buying 2 swash I went with the Heli-Option , cause Bro when you got -2 to + 4 of degree separation of pitch due to the sloppiest swash I ever seen. Well U will go aftermarket too

The 550L swash is not as sloppy as the 500L , but this little gal tears up tail shaft bearings like U would not bee leave mate !!!!

Like I mentioned b 4 , Boca does last way longer

Align orginal do not last as long

Where in Aussie do you get ur parts ?

I go to www.zenmtech.com out of Singa

Shipping is great and I not sure the AUS vs the SGD , but mate I order on sunday evening and it shipped b4 noon monday and I usually rec. by Wed. noon

Not sure the aussie customs , but Indo is depends on price of order anywhere between 30 to 80 % duty.

Really depends on "Who needs more rice on table"

It sad I know , but I choose to live here and pay the exuberant price to fly& Live here

So sympathy u shall not seek here

But

I feel ur pain bro , had more than enuff issues with Align products

And if you did not live so far away , I would definitely feel ur pain

But just cannot feel that far man !!!

May the wind always be on ur nose Mate !!!

Good Luck Mano

At least I got empathy!

I'll take that - in lieu of sympathy.

But thanks for the pointer to Zenmtech, I may give them a try.

And, yes, I have learned my lesson on overtightening!

Thanks, Falung_69!

Looks like the swashplate arm failed. Wow.. never seen that.. did you have your heli in a crash before. If you did perhaps hairline fracture slowly grew to the point of failure.

Its different to control arm breaking though

Crash ?

Yup she has about 8 of them on her
No Lok Tite ? Yup, as I do not use it on the Elev linkage to swash
But it was tight as , the broken fragment was still attached
This little smack also popped the DFC link and bent the bolt at the top that threads into the holder

Brand New DFC Linkage balls (Elev Ball link they called) , this is the exact 3rd time I have popped these while shooting autos and hitting too hard

Even the skids were whole , so perhaps you are correct it had a crack

Looks that way to me too

I had to post here and remind Senor Paolo of his Bad Ju Ju

Apologies to ALL! (for any bad Ju Ju)

Thanks for the "heads-up" PM @Falung_69

One of my three swashes failed in exactly the same place/way. I have decided to "ghetto" repair it. I'll post some photos for comment. I think it is now as strong as the original. But I haven't installed it yet.

Here are the photos of the "Ghetto repaired" swash.

Sorry for the lack of focus below, the phone wouldn't oblige.

What the photos don't show is what's going on "under the hood". The pin is CA'ed into the remainder of the screw thread. Then a metal wire is used to hold the pin in (like in a champagne bottle). Next special strong thread is used to wrap the pin to the wire and aluminium substrate. This is then also CA'ed. Finally, JBWeld is used to encapsulate everything.

I think this will be at least as strong as the original.

I've rebuilt one of my 550Ls using the RC-TEK swash mentioned earlier. I'm going to build my second 550L with this swash as a trial and see how it goes.

I'm no longer really interested in the standard swash. Your experience, basically, put the "kibosh" on it.

I'm going to try it with some ground tests. As I mentioned in the previous post, it may even be stronger than the original, just more ugly.

Anyway, I have a spare RC-TEK swash.

BTW, while the prices on the Zemtech site are quite good, the postage plus conversion rate makes it about the same price as buying locally here in OZ.

Lastly, we also had some significant rain here in WA, but nothing like yours!

Take care and hope the weather has lifted.

Had seven packs through so far. RC-TEK swash feels very good. Quality product. The machined aluminium really indicates that the swash is strong. If interested, I can post side-by-side pictures.

Photos repaired.

Sorry for the delay, here they are side by side...

and separately...

as can be seen, there's more, better quality, metal around the link ball mounting holes.

I managed to have a crash last week and the swash survived without incident, even though the blades went west, and the OWB was toast.

Ur repaired swash looks good
Mighty good work done on it mano
After 2 Align original OWB
I went Kde also and mounted it to an Align 118 tooth
I can't remeber why but the KDE mod of putting the spacer at the top of the sleeve did not work for me

I ended up putting 2 spacers under the shaft and that lined it all up and gave enuff clearance for the main gear

I had to go to the 118 T as I fly this 550L on both 6S & 8S and got a 13T pinion it it also , this way my headspeed was managable

At 1900 Rpm on 6S on Norm and 2400 & 2600 Rpm on IU #1&2 on 8S it is abeast and still easy on the Battery Packs with more power than I actually need for me

Thanks for the pictures and info mano

Ciao

Still haven't flown with the repaired swash yet, still rebuilding my other 550L.

FWIW, I had another crash with the one I did get flying, broke main blades and popped head links off the swash, but no damage to the swash itself.

The last crash wasn't even pilot error it was pilot STUPIDITY! So Infuriated with myself!

Anyway, it's back in the air with a slight problem, reported elsewhere.

just to add to this my 550x came down today. could not work out why then on closer inspection the swash had fractured at the elevator ball linkage... did I overtighten..? might have done don't know ...but first time happened for me with several align helis. cost to repair £150gbp

So this 550x crashed due to the swash splitting, U were flying along and then had no elev. control ?
Or the swash split when it hit the ground ?
Just curious is all
Mine split/broke in the crash
