Castle Ice2 HV80 set-up
Hi all.
Having some trouble getting anything out of the motor on my 600EFL 3GX with all stock equipment. Its probably something simple which i have missed but can anyone tell me the basics or anything else people know of that will stop the motor from working. I have gone through the manuals and do what it says about having the throttle stick at half then connect the batteries then bring the stick down. Appreciate any help anyone could offer. Thanks

Ok thanks I'll give it a go when I get back and post how I got on. I have already tried a re-bind but not the esc reset so will try that.
Thanks

The ICE needs the throttle end points calibrated. Follow these instructions.. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1190885 I think it is OK to cross post this - If not, my apologies.. Scotty

Yeah i think the problem is more to do with actually getting the motor to disarm, have tried the help in the video starting at 30% and increasing but i get all the way and have no beeps. Im running the 3GX, would there be any issues in that that i need to address that could affect the ESC?
Im trying all sorts of ways of plugging it in and different set-ups but still unsuccessful... Really frustrating, i don't want to have to purchase the castle link if i don't have to, surely its possible to get it going without this? Thanks for your help already

Just for sakes, did you try calibrating the throttle? I've attached CC PDF that explains how to do it. Just make sure your Throttle endpoints are at 0 (UP and DOWN) before you power up the esc. |

Sounds like throttle is not calibrated. The throttle travel end points on my DX8 is 129 low and 100 high without any trim.
The 30% thing is the throttle curve setting if you are running governor mode. Do the throttle calibration first. This will get the ESC to arm when the throttle out put is 0. Highly recommend the castle link if you plan to run governor mode. You also need the castle link to download the log. Good luck Cheater

Hi Guys.
All fixed. I got Dave to have a play with it and it seems like the reason it wasn't arming or calibrating was because when i was going through the set-up i plugged in the battery on full throttle then did it, however when Dave tried it he plugged in the battery on mid-stick then opened to full and then did the throttle calibration. Thanks for all your help, on with the rest of the flight set-up!

As far as the Castle Link goes, If you just recently bought it check ALL the papers that came with it.
There should be a coupon for a free link adapter in there. Mine came with one. Should have it any day now. |

Hi.
Just found that coupon in the package. That's cool! Do you happen to know how much it would cost to ship to the UK? I just read that it may be subject to import duties etc?

Out of curiosity what did you do exactly to resolve the issue? I just finished all of the 3GX setup and wanted to try and spin it up to look at blade tracking and no go. The engine beeps 3 times, I was in mid stick, went to full stick, then back down and it doesn't arm. I am on a DX8 with default travel.

On both hi & low throttle bring the ATV closer to zero. Your default setting will more than likely be 100 on hi & low so bring both settings in to around 50. With the Tx on place the throttle at the hi position & plug in your battery. You will hear the speed control initialize but you wont get the final tone for the programming mode via the Tx. The indicator light will also be flashing rapidly. Slowly increase your ATV out or back closer to 100 pausing at each increment. When the controller sees full throttle you will get the last initialization tone and if applicable, the red indicator light will now have a slow steady flash, go 2 more points on the ATV. Now move the throttle stick to low. *If the speed control initializes at the setting you have disconnect the battery & move the low ATV closer to zero. As in hi throttle we now want to slowly bring the low ATV out or closer to 100 pausing briefly at each increment until you hear the controller initialize then go 2 more points. The indicator light, if applicable will flash a slow steady amber. At this your Castle Controller now knows exactly where zero and full throttle is in accordance with your Tx. output to the Rx.

As far as i believe the instructions you have followed above are to calibrate the throttle and i don't think that is necessary to actually get the motor/ esc to arm. If it doesn't arm then you wont be able to calibrate it.
When you turn on everything and then plug in the batteries to esc do you get the initialization beep then 12 beeps for the cell count and then the initialization beeps again? The second initialization beeps after the cell count should be a short tone that gets higher in pitch to signal the motor is armed. Try plugging in batteries to esc with throttle on high stick then bring to mid stick and see if you get any beeps and if not try do it again and slowly bring it all the way to low throttle. Good luck.

Thanks, yes I needed to get it past the 12 beeps to spin up and calibrating the throttle seemed to get me there...

Actually that was the maiden spin-up to check blade tracking! The old pucker factor is pretty large with this heli! I need to find a nice large field to fly... I did get it nice and light on the skids, then thought to myself, "are you sure you adjusted everything correctly?"! Then I back off the throttle.

Ah fair enough. Yeah you do need some space for this thing. You'll love it when you get it airborne. As long as you know you've checked everything then all you can do is try it...
