Default Dominator swashplate slop

So, how much slop is normal?
The slop is not between main shaft and the swashplate, it's between the bottom and top part of the awash.

Thats a bad bearing. I'd contact Align USA for replacement.

The swash is a little more than twice as expensive as a standard Align swash, but stands up to a lot more abuse, so you'll probably end up saving money in the long term. Read the notes on the webpage about the swash balls - you'll have to get some of the 2.5mm ones.

And get another swash that works perfectly well for FREE...? Hmmm yea.

Theres a few bad parts here and there.... Align only mass produces more helicopter parts than probably any other company on the planet. I'll forgive them if not every part is perfect. I've never had a problem with a swashplate. And if I did, I'd exchange it for a new one for free. Thats part of Align's brand and service. They replace the errors. (for free)

Also.. do we know the part was at fault? Crashing a helicopter into the ground tends to break things like that. There's nothing to say or prove anything wrong with the OEM swashplate. Seems to work for 99.7 percent of the rest of us.

In your particular case, I'd probably go with the free option as well.

When I switched to i2rc, it wasn't an option, since my heli was used. I had auto'ed my 500 in to a landing in some pretty soft grass, and the swash separated, which caused my head to bind up, and that flipped the heli around pretty violently. If not for that swash, I wouldn't have had any damage. I had heard good things about the i2rc swash, and decided to give them a try. I now have a whole bunch of i2rc stuff on my 500, and highly recommend it. But it is expensive, so I completely understand that not everyone wants it.

When I was building up my 500 purchased used. I needed a new swash. Ordered a brand new unit and it had so much slop from the factory.. I returned it and purchased an I2Rc swash from rc-tek.

Never looked back. Best swash you'll ever buy.

Got my 500l used also and it has a little slop between the 2 parts. I might get the nice one or replace with stock.. money going into my 700 build so that may wait. Still flies fine

Thanks for all the inputs guys, and for sure there are a lot of discussions of these "issues" if I search around a bit.
I did order a brand new one (not super expensive) and ended up with pretty much the same slop. It's not the swash it self its within the bearing. So I just fly with it, I can't see any negative effects of it so...

The only place you're going to see it is in transitions from positive to negative pitch.

I changed bearing with one of these. A simple fix and now have zero slop in swash.

The Align swash plate is not a crappy one at least the ESP one, clones might be. Tarot is the same and even cheaper. The i2rc is most than double the price and doesn't even include the M2.5 ball links that are another $7 + shippings.

The i2rc is indeed a sturdy one, I got it but it is still into the replacements box. The four year old Align swash on my ESP is reluctant to fail.

maybe quality control was a little better on your esp, but my pro dfc was horrible out of the box. other people here have said the same thing. im not gonna waste my time with a cheap mass produced part that fails. im gonna replace it with what I feel is a better part and move on. its my heli right? someone else can do what they want. im mearly posting my findings

That certainly might be the case, what I have are several clones that were very cheap but they are incredibly sloppy on the main shaft. I wouldn`t dare using them! If you are not happy with the stock swash plates then the i2rc is a proven one.

Hi Gladius,

I'm around 150-200 flights into my 500L and have 3 swashplates all which exhibit slop as described by original poster (currently just flying through it. don't really notice the effect when doing half piros but I'm sure its there).

thinking about i2rc.
is this the right one? looks very different

http://www.rc-tek.com/store/i2rc-500...ate-p2286.html

control rod connectors between blade grip and swash look like the standard control rods wil be too long? do you have any pics of the installed swash? Can you explain whether you use the existing control rods?

Also the current ball links, I think they are already M2.5 so can I not just reuse these?

Thanks mate.

Yes, that's the right swashplate. If you already have some 2.5mm balls, then you're all set.

I just rebuilt my head, using the i2 swash, and the 500L head assembly, and I think you're right about the linkages. I had a baggie full of linkages though, and just used 2 that were the right length. There were definitely a few linkages in that baggie that were too long though. I *think* they may have been servo to swash linkages. Sorry I'm not more helpful.

One useful trick I've found is to get a tap and die set. Then, you can use a longer linkage, cut a few extra mm worth of threads into it, and then cut off the end with a dremel. Instant linkages in any length you want. The tap and die set costs about $15, and can be found in just about any hardware store.

Just make sure that the lock nut is not coming loose. I had one come apart on my 500 and the result was not good.
