The Good batteries will last even if stored fully charged . Worst is to store a drained battery .

Again the basic facts from real life controlled tests are:-

1. Storage at 100% charge at room temperature for 3 months typically leads to a loss of 20% recoverable capacity.

2. Storage at 40% charge at room temperature for 1 year typically leads to a loss of 4% recoverable capacity.

3. You should never drain a battery below 20% of its total capacity.

4. High ambient temperatures accelerate battery degradation in storage

So it's no surprise that new batteries typically ship at around 40% charge. How difficult does this need to be? If you store batteries long term, there is inevitably going to be some loss of capacity, but it can be minimised by following a few very simple rules i.e. store at 40% charge in a cool place (fridge is ideal for long term storage).
