Default Helijive 120HV with Scorpion 5020 450KV shutdown

Hello guys,

Yesterday I maidend my Goblin 700. All was going well untill i got a shutdown.
The helijive came down with 8 blinks ( overcurrent protection)
At first i tought the tension on the main belt was to hard so i lossend it a bit.

I did an amp test and came out at 30A sationairy running at 2050 rmp.
Sorry no in flight data. ( I hooked up an amp meter with some velcro)

Today i started real easy hovering and doing some mild flying.
As i was using my forth pack, and was thinking the problem was solved it stopped again when i was doing very mild tick-tocks.
Auto'd her in and again 8 blinks.

My setup is:
Helijive 120HV
Scorpion 5020 450KV
Pinion 24T
TC 65% @ 2050 rmp
Lipo: 12S 5000mAh 40-50C

I have read about using mode 10 ... but not sure about that.

Thx all for the info.

Regards,

Ermax

Hi Emax,
Sounds like you've got too big a motor in there. Stationary, amp draw is low,
the minute your load up the motor the amp draw is a lot more. Your case is
much similar to mine accept that my set up is a Sab recommended combo.
Hence the headache now

Oops sorry Emax.

Just took a glimpse of the specs. Check motor continuity to verify if motor
is ok. Try running in KSA mode

These are the motor specs, as you can see the motor is 85 A continous, with a peak at 120A for 5 sec. ,so that should should not be a problem.
Motor and ESC return mildy warm.
I' using the same motor in my logo 600SE with a CC120 at 1850 rpm without issues.

KSA mode is to my understanding for motors with Y wind. This motor has D wind just like Kontronic motors.

Please correct me iff i'm wrong.

Can't explain Emax. I had a Scorp 4525 610 kv motor. It is D wind & I had
to run Ksa mode to stop it from shutting down my HJ. Just give it a shot &
see what happens

I Just called Kontronik and they told me there was a problem with my motor. Possibility was that the insulations was damaged some place.
I just toke the motor apart and there was no damage to the insulation what so ever.
Since i am very keep on proper wirering i even put an extra shrink tube at the place where the cables bend down to meet the connectors of the ESC. That whole bunch is again in shrink wrap.

I just programmed mode 9 KSA.
Is it normal that after i get the normal initialisation beep i get an aditional beep seqence?

Yes , the second initialization beep is the "telephone ring" confirming KSA mode

What version is your HJ? Below Ver13 had commutation errors that result in Over Current shut down, 8 blinks.

Also Jive/HeliJive does not like short-fat can motors like the 5020, KSA may or may not help.

Hi Gimpy,

Perhaps it applies to the Kosmik/Pyro combo as well

P800?
My p750 has been working well with Kos160 up till my last flight when I had Peak Current reached error and Over Current (2 flash) error.

In my case I think it is to weak set of packs. I have new 45C's coming this week, hope they can keep up.

Hi Gimpy,

Yep Pyro 800 3 flashes over heat shut down. New 60C packs.
Im using it on Gob 770. Makes me wonder if the motor is a little
small for the Gob

Over Heat huh, does it get much airflow where it's mounted in G700/770?
Maybe a fan/heat sink if you can fit one will help.

Hi Gimpy,
Its in a 770. Motor is Scorp hot which in my experience for K motors
should not happen. Its a recommended set up from Sab. Hence
my disappointment. Install a Scorp 4530-450Kv no more shut down.

Esc and particular Jive doesnt like motors where stator width is more than double the length, i.e 5020, i had my share of trouble with 5020's and jives and for that reason wont mate them up. As for pyro 800 also 5020 size but perhaps being 14 pole vs 10 the difference cant say for sure. In contrast a 4525 ult or even normal 4035 will both have more power and no issues.

Default Helijive 120HV with Scorpion 5020 450KV shutdown

I'm running the 4525 ultimate with a powerjive120, no issues. I'm running it in ksa mode though. It get's pretty hot and flighttimes are short even with easy flying. Could this be due to ksa mode?
It is a powerhouse though

No need to run ksa on 4525 ultimate, its yy termination, this jive loves!, you will get much better performance not running ksa.
Ermax not another setup, just motor, keep the 5020 for something else, the cheaper esc's like fusionhawk on vbar gov works well on these motors
