Ideal gyro and tail servo for 450 3D
If I were gonna upgrade these two components to perform better and more "locked in" than the stock gyro and tail servo on a 450 3D, what would you recommend? Despite trying various setup combinations and headspeed / pitch / gyro variations, the tail control on this unit is "quirky" and sorta twitchy. More headspeed seems to improve tail control and authority but still get some "hunting" as if the gyro just can't quite figure out what it wants t' do.......................or the tail servo reads those inputs just fine and then sorta scrambles the message. This doesn't make the heli unflyable........................just sloppy looking and twitchy in hover especially. It'll sit there hovering and then just "twitch" where the tail will just quickly kick out. Reducing / increasing gyro sensitivity serves merely to increase / decrease the frequency of those twitches. It's a little smoother at lower sensitivity settings but then it sorta wallows around down that far as well (60's or lower). This has been going on for nearly a year, the heli has never been pranged (not even a minor blade strike) and all other components work smoothly and reliably..................even the stock motor hasn't yet come apart.

I used the Spartan Quark Gyro, with the Hitec HSG-5084MG. Very easy to set up and rock solid.
If that ends up being something you may be interested in,I have the Gold aluminum Quark With the datapod, both like new, never crashed. Iam in maple grove, MN. If wanted to i could let you try the gyro on your heli. if you like it, sure we could work out a deal on them if wanted. I recently converted to FBL so really don't need anymore.

+1 plus you can find some very good deals on the net now that FBL is so popular. I even saw 50% off at Fast-Lad, not sure though.

Just put a Quark Gyro and a Futaba S9257 tail servo on mine this weekend. Pretty easy setup thanks primarily to Finless's setup videos. Took two flights to get gyro gain where I wanted it. Amazing difference even though I'm still experimenting with gain. Much more locked in and no wandering that I used to experience with the stock setup.
