I must be lucky as mine is the smoothest gimbal I have EVER felt, all I did was add a drop of dry fluid a few months ago and it is perfect to this day, and I fly a lot.

Just reduced the stick tensioner and lubed, awesome transmitter.

Congratulations! You won the crap shoot

"From what I have heard, it is a crap shoot as to whether you get the incorrectly machined stick mechanism"

Not really answering what you are asking. But, all I can say is tht I changed over to a Jetti DS-16 a couple of months ago from a DX-9. All I can say is the more you go into the radio, and try new things, the more impressed you will be with the radio.
I have absolutely no regrets going over to Jetti.

Just replaced my Vcontrol with a DS14 Diablo and I have no regrets. The quality is top notch and the sticks are buttery smooth.

Here are what I have found to be the most useful:

Flight Modes - up to 6. So TH, normal and 2 idle ups is 4 modes.
Gyro Settings - they can be used for some other things too, the versatility of a Jeti.
Telemetry analysis - if you plan to run any telemetry you will need this to view the data.
Voice Output - Why have such a nice radio without voice output?
Function Curves - required for heli's

The fun stuff:
Timer up to 6
Event Sounds up to 10 - I ran out quicker than I thought I would.
You actually don't need function curves. All my helis are flying without it.
