E550 FBL
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXEAPP&P=7
Have you guys seen this? I've been looking to move up to 550 size and having owned the Mini Titan 325 FB in the past and now the 325s I can't wait to get my hands on one, I think Thunder Tiger's are most under rated heli's. Thoughts from all the experts? |

Looks like a nice ARF combo but the canopy kills it for me...

Yeah, I was hoping they would update to match the e360,e820 and e700 canopies. Oh well, still looks like a good package... now to convince the wife... hmmm.
Does anyone know of a canopy that will fit the R50/e550/e620/R30 frame that is more of the e700 style?

I agree on the canopy, they could have done a better job but considering everything you get for the money I can look past it....the GT5.2 just adds to the value...now if it only had a bailout feature it would be perfect.

Off topic but can you upgrade the gt 5.1 to 5.2 ? I've also been waiting a while for this heli to come out. Looks nice but not a fan of the canopy. That is one of the quarks I have about TT. None of the big aftermarket canopy guys make canopies for them. I also have never been a fan of the non direct to swash links. Not that direct swash is any better, just that I hate making linkage rods, so its one more thing to adjust. The rear mounted motor looks interesteing though.I'll wait for some user feedback before I get one. I'll be in the market for a 550 in the next few months. I was gonna go align but now will have to wait and see.

Saw the blue sticker set also, this may be a good option for a better look. Looks like we'll
Have to wait until mid February to get one which is ok because it will be a few months before it will be warm enough to fly, last few nights have been -20F here. |

At 1:39 in the video "450$".... where?????
The other bonus about this release is that Tower may start to carry the GT5 v2 hardware. (White one).

I think he got a little confused when he mentioned the price, I noticed that also and I'm sure he mixed pricing up with the E360....$450 for the E550 would be crazy!!

Yea I just looked it up on tower. 649 and early feb for arrival. Any clue who is making the servos for this thing. It looks like they moved away from ace rc which is a good thing. Already had to replace esc, and servos on my e325s. Hopefully the servos will be good. I'm also liking the belt drive. TT is just such a pain. I guess its not really you just gotta glue the bearing and worry about the drive shaft being straight so it doesn't cause vibrations and then you can't even barely knick the blades on grass without breaking something, so its looking real good in my book. Hopefully they don't all sell out on the first batch, may place an order for one some time in late feb.

Pretty sure the servos are ace but I think the larger ace servos are ok. (Hope they are)

Hi guys,
Does anyone know if Nick flies all the combo parts in this vid? Meaning, ESC, motor, servos, etc... Its by far the best heli you can get price/value vise imho. And if it flys like this out of the box... :

From what he said in the video I posted above, it sounded like he was running the stock motor, servos, and ESC. He did not mention what flybarless unit he was running though. Since he said he wasn't too familiar with the TT unit, I am assuming he is using something else. He also mentioned he was going to replace the ripper motor with a scorpion. Although it appears that the stock motor has some power. The kit is very tempting. For the price, its hard to beat.

Wow I can't believe I just pulled the trigger on this .
I was set on the soon to be released compass 550, but this will be half the cost! I ordered a blank canopy & some green stickers, cause ya the looks did not sell me at all! By bumping up my order to over $665. I got $100. off...so ya....can't beat the price! I guess I'll be in the test group for the first batch,........ I like my 325's, & the E700 is great, so this seems to be a smaller version with a belt drive tail.

I keep adding it to my cart and then realize I have an e620 with the same fbl head and swash sitting in my garage. I have a gt5.2 (v1 harware) for it as well but want to try the GT5 on my e360 before I put it in the e620. I hope tower has a sale on the GT5.1 when they start to carry the GT5.2
