Question Main grips .1 shims

Hi, I want to get rid of the main grip play that appears after some flying sessions. I have the Tarot FBL head that uses the same spindle as the Align ESP FB and FBL shafts.

Do you know guys where can I get some of the .1 or .2mm shims. The copper spacers between the grips and rotor block are ID6.1 x OD10.5 x W1.5 mm so the sshims shoould have at least similar ID.

For double check here is the manual, rotor view page 8:

Thanks

.2mm shims: http://www.amain.com/rc-cars/losi-6x...osa3501/p30455

I would also like to find some .1mm ones as these are a bit too thick for mine and cause binding.

You can make shims from different thickness credit cards....

Credit card is too thick for what they need. They are looking for 0.1mm thick shims.

Yes - have plenty of different mill plastic stock around - I can get pretty resourceful when the alternative is a two week wait for parts....

I even done the two week thing - only for them to send me something totally wrong.....

Hi, thanks for the info geouginator, I have also found only .2 shims. I am not sure if plastic shims may work but its a good point.

However I am changing my mind because in my experience I tighten the grips and they fit perfect but after 10 to 20 flights slop begins to develop. So the problem are not the shims but rather a give somewhere in the sistem.

I have found that the outer retaining washers, those between the grip bolt and the thrust bearing are being slightly deformed where they pushed against the bolt. I had a similar problem with the original tarot washers that were very thin compared to Aligns and were totaly deformed after some flights with some horrible slop in the grips. Now I got the Aligns but they are still marked by the bolt so I may add another thin washer there and see if things are going better.

I just chk mine (I do ok with the 3d) and mine has very minimum slop in the grips in comparison to my 450

maybe try replacing the dampers and the brass pieces that go in between the grips and head

Is this something you are noticing in flight ?

I wouldn't do that as the thrust bearing stands flush to the spindle shaft. Filing the spindle would add a lot of bolt pressure to the thrust bearings. There is no slop and both grips movely free after assembling the rotor.

By the way, do yo use the spindle shaft sleeve?? I have never so I don't know if it serves any purpose. I have always been flying with Trueblood green (hard) dumpers and that may negate any sleeve benefit.

Wink 0.1/0.2/0.3mm thickness shims

I ordered the following 6mm and 4mm ID shims for the main grips and the tail hub. They come in 3 different thickness sizes 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3 mil

When they show up I will tell you how do they perform:

Well I can say those are excellent stainless shims for eliminating slop in the tail shaft and main grips section that come in .1, .2 and .3mm thickness. A great addition that should be included in any new kit for fine tuning, as the Oxy3 does.
