Sorry for the late reply, have not been too active lately but that sure is a nice pic of your bird. Mines still a Hangar Queen (still needs an ESC to complete), but i have about 3x other projects on the go as well and $$ is thin on the ground still for me.

Pics will follow once i have my Beams complete and flying...

As for the rest of you Beam'ers show us some Beam Heli porn eh? What about some custom painted canopies as well? Love to look at the imaginative custom designs for getting ideas for my own....

Cheers
BH

Great to see JF....do you run the same avionics in both 600's?
Any plans for an Archon to join the family?

Shame Beam don't do a 450SE factory canopy scheme for the three sizes, guess when i want one i will have to go to Fusano or such, it's just a great color scheme. Perhaps i will have to put pen to paper and design my own (have a scheme in mind, just need to finalize the concept to a hard copy).

Great to see, Thanks again...

Default My Beam family grows

One new member added to the family, an E4 SE. I still have to mount a FBL unit and do the wiring and my tail servo is not yet mounted due to needing some kind of adaptor plate. But it should be good. It will be my first attempt at a serious FBL 450. I say this because my very first FBL was a converted Trex 450SE and it didn't work very well due to slow servos. So this time I am doing it right.

Default Updated Beam family portrait

Well now the E4 SE has been flown, the E6 is back to two blades and now on 6s. So here's the current family pic.

What a good looking bunch of Beams...now you need to adopt an E5 to complete the family picture...

Two thirds of my Beam family out in the sunshine today. The E4 looks a bit strange with that canopy but it does help quite a bit with visibility.

I was still feeling very rusty from not having flown in about a month (except for one flight with the TDR last Sunday).

So my collective management left something to be desired but the Avantgarde flew very nicely. At first the tail belt was very tight due to the boom expanding a bit in the warm weather, so I loosened it and then thought I could hear the belt slapping a bit so tightened it back again and then still thought I heard some belt slapping noise now and then but maybe it's normal.

G'day Trillian, thanks for bringing this thread back up, and the new pic.

BTW?....How do you find the 'aerodynamics' with the new dress on the E4, and..... how are the shorter blades with the lhs on the E6?

And,...IIRC from your previous posts regarding the E6 belt (although i believe it may have been for Winter, not Summer..)....that you found the best balance of power response to belt life was best when there was the lightest of 'ticking' (belt sound slapping boom) with just a weeee bit of slack. ie; NOT a taught belt ?????

I also recall talking about this with the previous owner of mine (he was the importer of BEAM) and he basically said the same thing....if your worried, have a chat PM with RasmusDK as he's fluent in BEAM speak.....

Don't know if you know about this,...............buuutt, BEAM have a new baby in the Hangar (excluding the new MULTI range as well!!!)......

Come look at the babbbyyyy;......(re; Seinfeld )...

http://www.hatzs.co.kr/shop/m_mall_l..._ctid=49010000

That's two (2) new models i have to get now (as well as the Octo 'Artisan'...BEAM appear to like the letter 'A' huh? lol)...and no need to muck about doing a 'stretch' (thicker, stronger shafts etc..) anymore....sweeet!!!

Cheers
BH

Hey JF, sorry i missed this post, nice pics and great flying btw,....well now it looks like our wallets will be lighter still, with the new 4.8. As per Fusano....i've read of folks sending in their own canopies (blanks preferred, but oem OK) and have them do your own design...even though the design i like is the SE, i could have them do the same on my E6 or Archon, or even the 4.8...

That was some years ago now, so i can't vouch for that info. today. I was going to set myself up with my own gear and mask/paint my own version so i'm not up to speed with Fusano....perhaps drop them a line? I also believe there is another mob who have a good rep on the forums, but their name fails me right now....give google a hit perhaps?

And, should you have an earlier FB version (and most likely Advantage FBL as well) you can fit 'Align' canopies of 'certain' models, which Fusano do have in range...if your not a purist?

Cheers
BH

Looking back through the threads and all the great pics from BEAM owners, it makes me wonder (if) who will be able to be the first to have a pic of the entire BEAM Hangar range for the 'FAMILY ALBUM'?

......the only one i wouldn't have if i got the E5 & 4.8 would be the ridgy didge original FB 450 (though i just 'maay' be able to cobble an airframe together, i don't have the electronics...(yeah,.... i could,.... but i entered the hobby on FBL and never flown one)...mind you, like most of my Hangar, i could always just buy a used one and leave it as a static model...

If anyone can do it?.....how about a Hi-Res pic so we can have a great Desktop pic of the 'family'....

Hey there!

The aerodynamics don't seem to be affected too much. It looks a bit odd but flies fine. I'm getting a bit of pitching up tendency in aileron rolls but that might just be from being really rusty as I had not flown for a while, and / or maybe I need to add some expo to the elevator.

On the E6 I was trying some RJX 600mm blades this time and they worked quite well but the amp draw is higher (especially combined with my rusty collective thumb). So I'll go back to the 550s next time and decide which I like best. (headspeed is approx 1700 and the tail still holds well enough, I was running the Align 550s at about 1800. I forgot what the pitch range is but whatever I have now is a bit too much for the 6s setup if I keep 600mm blades. I just remember the 550s feeling very light, maybe the ultimate answer is heavier wider chord 550s)

Yeah with the belt I always try to run them as slack as I can get away with. If the belt slaps against the inside of the boom a little bit it's not a big deal but I don't want the tooth side of the belt coming together. I think it's probably fine but when I get a moment I'll have a close look at it here at home. Most of my other helis are torque tube drives except the Triabolo which has a very long belt but it also has a really large diameter boom.

As it's very quiet in here again: I added a new member to my Beam family, well sort of. It's another Avantgarde complete airframe and for the moment will remain dissasembled as spares. The slightly sad part is that I got it from the only other person I knew in the UK with an Avantgarde, which now makes me the only person I know of with one. Surely they must have sold more in the UK but they're like 'dark matter' over here, never seen.

(this pic just shows the main frame assembly and canopy, the rest is neatly boxed up as I just moved house so it will remain boxed for now)

I also just got a set of SAB 570mm blades to try on mine. It worked quite well with Align 550s but felt like something a bit longer would be better so this is inbetween the 550s and 600s.
