Best deal on 7HV
I am about to pull the trigger on a new 7HV. What is the best deal for a kit or combo?
(I am not looking for extreme power with the new motor which is probably beyond my ability)

Just buy the kit with blades, or w/out blades. Then choose mtor and esc to your liking. I would say definetly buy the kit from a well known company, like Nankin, experincerc, or amainhobbies. That way if there are any issues, theres no question you will have great support.

Nothing is beyond your ability as long as you set it up properly.
Run it on governor mode and make the right gearing choice. Separate purchase of a less capable (less efficient) motor for maybe the same or even higher price would be a waste imho.

I would have to agree with EricW, the Compass motor is a very good value when purchased with the helicopter. You dont have to run crazy high head speeds with it, either gear down or use a gov. to keep the RPM at a comfortable level.

Will the power of this motor still chew into flight times with less aggressive flying? I am only learning 3d and don't need a lot of power if it will go to waste. What escs can support this motor comfortably? I am looking at getting a SJ-HAWK 120A.

Here is a video of Sebastian https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...3&postcount=84 Flying at 1500 and 2100 rpm with the Compass motor on a 14t pinion.

1850-1950rpm Practice / learning 2050rpm Normal flight routine speed 2125-2150rpm Fun fly demo flight speed 2200rpm+ Hold on tight! You can see in Sebastian's video posted above that the helicopter is very capable across a broad range of head speeds. If you check out Dave Ketelhut or Eric Brandenburg's videos you will see how the 7HV performs at insane head speeds. Still being in the learning stages myself I have been happy with 1950rpm for most of my flying. I feel that the power is good, agility is more than enough to get out of trouble when needed, and everything happens at a comfortable pace.

For mild and even hard 3d 2000 is sufficient.
It also depends on your lipo and esc. The hawk has a external cooler if I'm right, and performs great on a 7HV. Flying on a good governor keeps the rpm steady. And that is all what you need for 3d. the advantage of a big can on a motor is the delivered torque. Helping to keep it steady. The efficientie keeps it cool. the absolute need for head speed is actually something from the past imho. With paddles more rpm is more cyclic agility. Now with fbl you only get more collective pop out of the rpm and stopping power. Cyclic speed is as fast as you set it, regardless which rpm you set. I don't have the motor. But I'd choose the same setup as Sebastian is using, he designed it

Hey fellas, some great comments and suggestions here for any brand of Heli. I've several other makes of 600 and 700 size Heli's and head speed is a bit of a sore point for me getting things the way I prefer for now, I'm sort of green to this hobby!!
Loved the video of Sebastian, very smooth indeed. I've an Atom 500... I'm in love with it! |

Welcome brother The E7 was on my short list also but the reports of belt issues turned me off. Seeing the TT kit is going to cost another $200 I'm glad I bought the 7HV.
