Default TDR2 - BD3SX - MyBuild

Hello,
Just a post to record my setup in case it should help anyone and to generally share the pictures.

Futaba 14SG Transmitter
Futaba 7008SB Receiver
Helicommand\Bavarian Demon – 3SX
PYRO 800-48 & Cool KOSMIK 200
3 x Hitec servos D945TW (and the Hitec servo programmer DPC-11).
1 x Hitec D940TW
2 x Gens Ace B-65C-4400-7S1P batteries
Optipower 430 backup solution
19T pinion
750 Zeal main blades
130 Zeal tail blades

I connected the receiver to the 3SX by SBUS cable (just a male to male servo cable)
Main power from the ESC goes to slot 3 of the receiver
Secondary power from ESC goes to spare slot in 3SX, slot 2 after the tail connection.

Retract motor fitted but legs not on yet.

The maiden was successful, and showed no signs of the noise and tail wag that others have experienced, however worth noting that I had the tail\belt fitted for approx. 3 weeks before flying, and rotated a few turns every day, which probably helped stretch\loosen up.

Thank you to everyone that helped answer my newbie questions – I am very grateful that I managed to get this complex machine in the air without returning with a bag of bits,
Cheers
Russ

I guess you have no problem with the location of the optipower battery under the Kosmik when connecting your main batteries?

Hi PuttPutt,

Actually with the battery at that angled orientation, i noticed two bulges in the canopy from the ESC being pushed up too high.
I have since angled the little optipower battery straight across in the larger void under the ESC and now no bulges in canopy and the canopy is easy to fit now as I am not fighting and pushing against anything.
Main batteries slide in and out just fine, thanks to the hinged ESC

By the way I just noticed that you went BD3Sx for the flybar, I thought you had decided on Neo.

Anyway I would be interested in your set up with BD in so far a servo travel programming for the Futaba. There seem to be some controversy as to what the instructions say and what is needed.

Hi Puttputt,
I'll post a pic soon of settings.

I finally put the retractable gear on and it works a dream after I stopped them binding when they got half way up.
The query I have is, how are people transporting the heli when it has this gear.

With the usual skids, I had a clamp that clipped over the runners.

How do you now stop it toppling over in way to the field,

Cheers
Russ

My intent is to build a custom hard shell carry case for mine and to stow it on its side with the landing gear retracted, and the canopy and battery frame off.

Is there any downside to storing the heli long term with the landing gear retracted?

Initially I looked at rifle cases, but finally I decided that I would make a highly custom case that fit my TDR2 perfectly with two loaded battery pack frames and a canopy.

I was wondering about that too.

I will probably make a carry cradle out of Styrofoam like I do for some jets.

When I bring more helicopters to the field, I will just "squeeze" it between two other helicopters. Mine are held on the randomheli rack and clips. One heli on each side with some of my Jr pads in between should do the trick.

https://www.randomheli.com/HDW-TRK-24-p/hdw-trk-24.htm

I guess you could use a heli bag too but I never liked them personally.

(When will Jeti come up with some pads too? )

I am wondering now if with the retracts retracted we could not make an easy removable support out of the (ugly) standard retracts. Something to look into.

Also how to hang it on the wall?

I'm using one of these.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004UZS8PK

My TDR hangs vertically.
Everything else sits horizontally in my office.

Personally I like heli carry bags.

I think we use the same wall hanger for the TDR 1, I got the one for my Goblin too. All other are using the randomheli clip to mount vertically.

I am hoping to find a similar solution for my TDR2 in the same orientation.

(Sorry Dafinity did not mean to highjack your thread)

What happened exactly? Seems to me that even if the Optipower does not work when you need it to work, you were going down anyway.

I don't see the point in devices like these and seriously doubt I ever will.

No it was more the BD3SX parameters that you used in the BD program not in your Tx. Like on the pic below< or just a copie of the model file for the BD in your TDR2:

No problem my TDR2 is still in the box waiting for the bad weather to start. We are about 10 degree Celsius above normal today. A great end of the flying season so far.

Thanks Dafinity I really appreciate, especially the first and last pic, this will save me time.

I think your intent is to be ready for IRCHA Mark.
