Default Finally got one

I've eyed the protos for some time now but wasn't die hard about it. Got a chance to build a mini p and that made me want to try the 500. I got it second hand but man it's still a smooth sweet little heli.

Mine has the MSH 26-10 820kv motor which is dated so we shall see how it flys. I just did a maiden with spot lights to make sure setup is ok and as expected it's light! Can't wait to fly it in the am!!

Congrats and welcome to the Protos family. You'll love the Protos even keeping it stock. If you really have the upgrade itch, just get the low head and be done with it (or maybe the stock Scorpion motor as well). All stock plastic parts work fine and light.

Thank you, I do intend to keep it as plastic as possible for weight and cost reasons for sure. I like my helis to be practical if I stuff them in the ground. I do have to say for how old this heli is everything on it seems very practical and functions well.

Just put some real flights on it and love it! 2500 rpms is very capable and this motor honestly isn't bad at all.

Looking good, loving the plastic frame! It even has the nice carbon inserts for the motor mount already mounted.

What I see though is your main gear is riding a bit high? Not sure, I do not have my (plastic) Protos with me right now. There should be a thick (1 or 2 mm?) washer under the screw that goes into the main shaft, it appears to be missing in the pic. This would place the main shaft (and thus the main gear) in the right place, with the belt riding in the middle of the gear.

I did notice the belt doesn't ride in the center and see some angle the boom to correct but I haven't messed with it just yet. The washer is in place at the bottom which I made sure of. Everything else seems in place it's possible it's just the boom but I didn't think it had much wiggle room but I'll see.

My bad Nick, if everything´s in place, it should be possible to align the boom a bit to get the belt riding in the middle as you said. Happy flying!

Got back in the air thanks to Bill!

But 2 flights later one of my tail grips broke and sent the blade flying and it broke the tail case. Was able to auto to safety with no further damage. My buddy gave me some spares the other day so this failure won't hold me back from flying.

Balanced the rotating assembly on a make shift dubro balancer and ran it back up to head speed on the heli and no vibes. I also didn't realize I had auto start enabled in the esc so I dropped that to 2% and now it doesn't swing the blades out of position on spool up anymore haha

It was flying great, can't wait to get back out and do it again!

Before the remaiden

Successful remaiden

Not so much luck second flight
