700 KSE how does it fly
Besides sounding and looking cool, does the 3 blade heli fly that much different than a two blade heli? Would love to hear someone that has flown both.

I'm sure you will get other posts. I don't feel real qualified to give you an answer as I just haven't had much time to fly it. I have had it in the air a few times but just trying to get everything dialed in. I do plan to go all day on Saturday. Going to bring my generator. I have had a goblin 700 for some time now, got one of the second shipments when they first came out. We'll see how the KSE matches up.

Much more stable but very active in mid stick and in alot of maneuvers, you dont need to push the right stick (mode 2) all the way to have very nice turn!
With a correct set up,the 700 KSE is the best 3D helicopter ever! |

It is wildly different. Things like tic-tics require very little stick movement on pitch, same thing goes for flip and roll. With 12.5º of pitch, you push full collective and it disappears like a rocket. The machine is very smooth running and feels very precise and reactive around center stick. Piro rates seem to be very consistent and clean with the 3 blade tail as well. Some folks like it, some folks aren't fond of the unique feel that comes from 33.3333% more disk. I like it. ;-)

The KSE is a very stable and responsive machine. Building the heli was pretty straightforward. I did have one of the small tail bushings strip out and had to sand the main shaft a bit for smooth movement. It looks amazing and has an impressive presence in the air.
At 1900 headspeed I am getting some tail stalls and have tried a gamut of tail main and "I" gain adjustments. After contacting SAB support, I was informed that the 24T tail pulley and 104 mm blades are required to fly 3D. Those parts should be in tomorrow and I will find out if they resolve the issue. I hope to have it flying as well as my Trioblin 570 soon!!

When switching from forward to reverse inverted hurricanes, as the tail spins around it starts to stick and then will whip around. I have tried from 28 to 100 on the main gain and running my I gain from 40 to 65 with no success. It does it less at 1800 rpm, but with 1900+ rpm the stalls are pretty consistent.

I agree the behavior is different from what I have experienced with tail tuning in the past. I tried moving it out to the middle hole on the SAB servo horn and it didn't help. The limits are currently 92/94 in this position. I also talked to a SAB team pilot that said he is having the same issue and will be getting the sped up tail and smaller blades. Hopefully, I will be able to test it tomorrow.

I put the 24T tail pulley and 105mm blades on last night and got 4 flights in this morning. On the first flight, I left the ball in the middle hole and the tail flew much better at 1900 rpm. It still had some minor stalling behavior until I move the ball back to the inner position. After that, it flew great for 3 flights. I will have to get more flights in to determine if the stalling is completely gone. The main tail gain is at 75 with P 80 and I 60.

What gearing are you guys running? I have an Xnova 4530 480kv with a 21 tooth pinion and the kosmik 160 and my collective pop is not very impressive. Head speed should be around 1950 according to Mr Mel, but it sounds pretty low. Thinking about going to a 22 tooth pinion.

The HPS 3 doesn't have that pop like the 2 blade 690's but it will move and roll very quickly

I have noticed that excessive collective pitch can bog the motor on some setups taking away the "pop" feeling on reversals or hard stops. The machine I flew had 12.5º of collective and felt quite good although does not "pop" as much as a higher head speed 2-blade setup. Tic-Tocs require very little input on collective. I Jabbed the stick for a punch-out it took off like a rocket with 12.5º. I'd like to try a 14S setup just to compare the feel.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine doesn't sound like its bogging, the headspeed just sounds and feels low. I'm running 13.5 on the pitch at the moment. In Kyle Stacy's video he said he was running 14. I'll try less and see how it flies.

Kyle has excellent collective management. The motor you are running, while not weak isn't optimal for a 3 blade setup. I can bog a 4530-525 Xnova paired with a Kosmik 160 on the KSE 700 at 12.5º if I try.

Yeah not saying I'm on Kyle's level obviously. I chose this motor b/c it was listed by SAB in the manual as a "Hard 3D" option.
If I TRY I can bog almost any setup. Im just doing clean collective pumps while the head isn't loaded and I'm not crazy about the response compared to other 700 sized machines I have owned. Maybe thats just how the 3 bladed head responds. It performs nicely in funnels, hurricanes and piroflips. Only 4 flights in so I'm still tweaking... |
