futaba vs JR
Are there any ex JR owners that are now flying futaba's 8fg? I am undecided about going with a JR radio or the futaba 8fg. The worst thing I have heard about the futaba is the feel of the 8fg. The worst thing about the JR being it being older tech. Anyone want to chime in on this one?
thanks Jeff |

I switched from the jr 11x to the 8fg.
I find the sticks on the 8fg real smooth , smoother than the 11x 8gf lighter than the 11x (and 11x with lipo) I like the deep back section of the 11x. I have large hands and my fingers curl nicely into the back side. (pinch non strap flyer) 8fg doesn't have and rubber on the sides or back , just the plastic case. The roughness molded into the case of the 8fg a bit smoother than the jr radio. Can give a slippery like feeling, not sure if it's a mental thing or not. 8fg smaller in size and i suspect the sticks closer togeather than the 11x switch placement. Here's something you might want to condiser carefully. I like to fly pinch method with my middle finger between the two top switches. Plenty of room on the jr radios (8103,9303,dx7,11x) where the 8fg spacing is much tighter. A concern of accidently flipping a switch is a reality. Solutions : 1 : program the front 3 position switch as a 2 position switch using the center and forward positions only (fron switch in center position gives more room) 2 : do what i did , unsolder the switched and re-configure. I now have 4 short switches across the top front panel , and on the topside of the radio i put the long easy to click toggles in the front position and there isn't any in the rear loactions. Of course warranty is void for me right now. Or you could send into radio south to have it configured as you wish and maintain the warranty from futaba. warranty : futaba 1 yr , jr 3 Flying : I have 6 flights on it now. Half way thru first flight i felt comfortable with it , no awkwardness at all. I'm sure after 20-30 flights i will be even more comfortable with it. Main reason for switching is possible issues with dsm2 / dsmx protocall when routed thru a vbar controller. Just setting up a logo 800 and a radio issue could yeild a $1000 crash which easily pays for the 8fg and some spare change for batteries. Martin

I switched from a JR 9503 to an 8FG and I'm now back to a JR 11X.
The main reason I switched to the 8FG was my experience with a DX8. I had my one and only radio issue with the DX8. From what I understand, that issue has been fixed. I switched back to JR and the 11X for two main reasons. The first one is that most of the people I fly with use JR/Spektrum and many have the 11X. The other one is that the sliders on the 8FG weren't very well suited for the conversion control for my V-22. The slider on the 11X is the best I've found on any radio so far. I think I would disagree that the stick on the 8FG are smoother than the 11X. Just my opinion. I am interested in the statement you made about a possible issue with DSM2/DSMX and the vbar. I have several hundred flights with this combination, including several with a Logo Xxtreme, and have never had any issues. The only issue I'm aware of is using DSM2 and high-res. |

Funny you mention that, i wish they would remove the sliders from the side of the radio, they are always in the way.

mustang ..
I have also had alot of flights without issue on dsm2 with sat ready vbar - just over 200 with my logo 6003d - about 50 on my 600se with one lockout - i'm 75% certian it was a static hit but only 75% - and several other flights one varoius machines over several years with specrtum / jr receivers. I got in early with my dx7 been great radio and i still have it for BNF stuff and helping out. My current issue is the possibilty of a problem involving my logo 800. Ive heard of 2 crashes so far , one at $1000 and one at $1200. Far exceeding the cost of the 8gf by a long shot. I sent you a pm with the info i was provided with. long story short. If you use a jr 11x dsmx with jr wires and jr sats your doing as good as your going to get with this technology. martin
