Old to New
Is it worth getting an older G4.0 and then upgrading to 4.1, or should I just get the 4.1?

I'd get the g4.1 if there is not much of a price difference.
In saying that the g4 Flys amazing. Just your gear ratios are limited. Also they are phasing out the old frames and bell cranks, so if u only damage one frame you might find it harder to come by Sent from my GT-I9300T using Tapatalk

The 4.1 is available now and is cheaper than the 4.0. Seem like a no brainer. There are only minor differences in the two anyway. You could slot the frame holes on the G4 to run the updated ratio. I think that you can run the updated bellcranks on the old frame as well.

Everywhere I've looked, the 4.0 is $300 cheaper because they're trying to get rid of stock. Which is why I asked. If they are already phasing out parts, such as the frames, and parts are not interchangeable, then that would indicate I should go with the 4.1.

My bad, I didn't know you could still get a 4.0.

Re: Old to New
For 300 bucks less I'd get the 4.0
You can buy frames and bell cranks and probly a gear for that price. I've had multiple crashes and I'm still on the stock frames and bell cranks, As mentioned some guys have slotted the frames for the updated gear ratio. Bell cranks I wouldn't recommend as you will weaken the frame getting them to work Sent from my GT-I9300T using Tapatalk 2

You will prolly not notice the difference in flight between the 2.
But as said the parts available are now all 4.1 spec, so might be difficult to get older parts. Another big change is the tail case, a 4.1 boom does not work with a 4.0 tail case, so when you need a new boom, you will also need a new tail case. I would just get the 4.1 and not have any future problems...

Is there going to be a G4.1 E720, or is the E700 it?

Can't say for sure ;-) but I'd assume there would be a G4.1 e720 as it would make manufacturing easier and cheaper if the e720 g4 and e820 frames were identical.

Huh. Odd that they would discontinue one product before they have its replacement out.

Just curious as to why gear ratios are limited? 17000 power band of YS91SR at 7.92:1 gives 2046. That's plenty power. Or do you mean limited because it's hard to get a lower, more fuel efficient head speed?
