Man I feel so bad, I must have mis-read your post earlier. You want to run the tail 4mm back in order to run 716 mains with 106 tails. I sincerily apologize. PM sent.

This was with 716 mains & 116 tails... Gonna go back to 696s w 116s... Next time I try the 716s I'll guess I'll use 106 tails

My bad Grimmy, that message was directed toward cml001. Been doing well brother, had a great time. I hope your E7SE is treating you right!
For future reference I should add that I went over this topic with Matt yesterday. While there are some people out there who have pulled it off successfully, it is not recommended to run 716 mains with 116 tails on the E7SE. If you want to run 716s, make sure the tail box is pulled back 4mm and run 106mm tails. If you're a banger you should be running 696s - hard flying with 716s increases the risk of a boom strike. For 3d flying I think you will find tail authority a little better and cyclic a little quicker when running 696 anyway. Everyone's flying style is different, choose your setup to fit your style. |

Could you run 710 mm blades, 106 mm tail blades safer for 3 D ?

Have there been enough reports of boomstrikes on 716s that we know its a proble....or you guys just approaching with caution? I've got 716s on mine for the first time and I'm loving how it feels. I'm no smack master but I'm capable of breaking them in the air. there looks to be plenty of clearance from the tail blades(106), hopefully they never flex enough to catch the boom. I guess I'll just have to stay on top of my dampers.

They should be fine. When the E7SE came along the disc was moved closer to the helicopter frame for tighter axial COG and improved overall responsiveness from that of the original taller E7. This also made blade length a more critical choice for hard flying. Any helicopter can have a boom strike if the right conditions are met. The combination of lots of collective and/or cyclic along with lead/lag in the blades in flight is what causes a strike. Running your blade grips decently tight should help reduce the lead/lag effect, but you can't get all meat fisted on the bolts and make it so the blades can't straighten on spool up. If you run a lot of pitch and often find yourself reaching into the corners with the sticks, then shorter blades are your friend. If you bury back elevator and negative pitch at the same time you're asking for it with any machine. I haven't really seen this be an issue of any proportion, but it's certainly something to be aware of and to take into consideration when setting up and flying your helicopters, no matter who manufactures them. I hope all that blathering makes sense
