Default HC3SX questions

Looking for a little guidance before I take my heli out and pile it up . For the record i'm flying a fbl trex 500 and using a JR 12X radio . I've waded through the setup and feel confident I have things correct UNTIL the rigid tab setup .

Am i safe to choose the acro preset and maiden flight with those parameters then tweak those parameters as I see fit ?

Then I would like to discuss the Horizon tab. I'm not so sure I have my brain wrapped around this .

Channel assignment first .

Rigid gain or Horizon . It's one or the other correct ? I thought I just setup the rigid parameters in the previous screen ?

My head gyro control is on my Aux2 switch . So if I assign to Horizon, Aux2 would become the controlling switch for the Horizontal control overriding Rigid control ? Or do I have to pick out another channel to control Horizontal control ?

If I choose Horizon then i'd be able to see the Horizon channel on the Diagnose page working with my Aux2 switch correct ?

I think i'm done confusing myself and will wait for some helpful knowledge before going any further .

I had mine set on the Aux2 slider on my trans. Bottom is for Horizon mode. Middle is for Rigid mode. All the way to the top is Rescue with Pitch. I can't remember the exact setting details on the top of my head. I can look when I am off from work and update the post if u like.

Ok yf sounds good .

I ventured off into some button pushing and kinda answered a few of my own questions . When you click on horizon and write it to the unit it is assigned at that point . NOW , the reason they say to have your head gyro set at it's optimal reason is because why ????

Once you choose to assign the channel to Horizon does that "freeze" the head gyro at last known setting and afford you the ability to control different rates in Horizon mode ??

The reason to have the Head Gain set at the optimum means to start out with the preset from the software. This is the general setting that works with most helis out there. Then hover it, and increase it until you would see the heli kinda oscillate back and fourth, and side to side. Once you see this, decrease it about 7 to 10 percents from this oscillating point. And yes, the head gain locks in once you set it. According the the way I have my bird settings. The Aux 2 slider controls the functions of Horizon, Rigid and Rescue with Pitch. It acts as a switch between these 3 functions. As for the gain for these 2 functions. You can increase and decrease it by using the ATV, or the Travel Adjustment in your transmitter. When you do this, put the software on the "Diagnose" page and you can see the overall amount of gain change being made. I hope this helps.

Head gain is NOT set automatically when switching to Horizon mode !

What you do is after finding the best gain for your heli, go to the Diagnose page, see where your gain is set to, and set this value in the Rigid page's default gain slider at the far top of the screen. Write this into the unit and then switch to 'Horizon' in the Horizon page. Now you can adjust the horizon gains: -100% for Captain Rescue, 0% for pure rigid flying, and whatever positive gain you want to have for horizon mode, if needed. Most people only go with 0% and CR.

Most people use 0% in horizon mode? I did not know that. What will the difference be between 0% and 25%?

Ok, from the beginning

After setting the head gyro channel to Horizon, you do not control the head gain via this channel any more, but the horizon mode(s). The head gyro gain is now controlled by the default gain slider in the Rigid page.

0% on this now as horizon gain used channel means, that you fly without (0%) horizon gain. So pure fbl mode, rigid mode, whatever you want to call it.
A positive signal set the horizon (coaxial) mode without collective action. THe lower the gain, the less assistance you get from the system. This simply has to be tried by any pilot himself, which is the suitable value for his needs.
For Captain Rescue (hor mode + collective action) you need to apply -100% signal on this channel. This levels the heli and makes him meet the sky.

Hope that was more clear now

Ah ok. Dumb question.... I wasn't thinking of it that way. That's already how mine is setup.
