hobbywinng platinum pro 40a soldering question
Was soldering a wire to my platinum pro on the heatsink side and I think may have linked twoconnections that shouldn't be. Does anyone have a picture of the heat sink side or one lying around that you could look at and tell me if the red lead to the battery is connected to one of the leads of the capacitor? See the attached pic of how mine is now

Here you go, Steve. As you can see, there is separation on the top of the board between the positive lead and the positive leg on the capacitor. HOWEVER... I did check it with a multimeter, and there is continuity between the two (via a trace likely). So that particular area may not be your problem. If you are bridged to the negative side... Then that's another story.

Thanks CPO - I ordered a solder sucker today and I'll do a better job of cleaning it up then. I haven't fired it up. I noticed the connection and couldn't remember if it was like that or not. I'll clean it up before I plug it in. Appreciate the help.

I'd go with some heavy solder braid myself. Use some liquid flux on the braid and some solder on the tip of the iron to form a heat bridge between the iron and braid. Use a big tip with some thermal mass so you can work as quickly as possible.

I did - it looks like it's a change because I got all the solder I could off there and it's looks like there's a pad that connects them. I'll be trying it with the blades removed and see how it goes. I finally received a couple batteries today (I'd ordered batteries from hobby king way back in July and it looks like they disappeared in shipping so I bought some from gens ace). I should be able to test it in the next couple days.
