Nope, auto trim didn't work
Alrighty then....
In the diagnose tab: When I throttle up past 30% the check mark goes away in the "auto trim inhibit" When I mash down on the decrease button, the Aux channel bar doesn't move. Also the "auto trim request" box doesn't change to a check mark. In the Rc & Trim tab: The "Internal auto trim settings" remained at 0. I dunno what I'm missing Mel

Hi Mel,
just had a look at your screen grabs. The first thing is that you need to change to Autotrim and Gyro Mode or if you only intend using HH then Autotrim Only on the Gyro tab. This also means that the gyro gain is set in the software, (currently you have it set to 16). Ian |

Getting Dx7 to Auto Trim Helicommand
Setup like this, the Aux 2 switch will trigger the "Auo Trim" function after 8 seconds of steady hover
Flight switch will be, Normal = Position hold ST 1 = HC is off ST 2 = Horizontal Mode Setting it up..... Going in the initial set-up menu Dx7... -Power on the receiver while holding the select+down buttons -"Up" button until you get to "Input Select" screen -Set AUX2 channel to F.Mode switch -Change the GEAR channel to AUX2 instead of GYRO. Now we need to program the radio to trigger "Auto Trim" with the Aux 2 switch -Press select + down buttons to get to opening screen, then do it again -Press "Up or down" buttons to get to "programable mix2" menu. -Set GEAR to GEAR Off - Off/On explained below Rate -100% -100% (Use Aux 2 switch to toggle between these two to adjust) Sw: GEAR (With the Gear switch in 0 position to get red Off, 1 pos. is on Offset: 0 The GEAR switch can be used as an On/Off for the pilot channel but must be in Pos 0 if you want to use Aux 2 to trigger auto trim. Now we have to "Up" button our way over to the Travel adjust channel (not the same as the travel channel on TV) Select button your way to the GEAR Channel Open Helicommand Software on you pc (you did get it didn't you Mr. Scrooge?) Plug in the adapter cord, refresh ports, unplug 2 motor leads (or wear body armor) plug in your flight battery, then plug into HC black cord to the outside. If I don't do it in this order, I get blue screen of death. "Read" HC into software Click on "Diagnose" tab Flip 3 postion Flight mode switch (Norm, ST 1 & ST 2) it will change between Horizontal, Off & Position Hold. Put it on Horizontal mode Move throttle stick up half way (if you didn't unplug the 2 motor wires, this will tell you) You should see the "Auto Trim Inhibit" check mark go away. Back to the Radio: flip Aux 2 switch to position 0, this will move the pointer in the GEAR travel chan to the top In the GEAR channel with pointer on top, press Increase button until it triggers "Auto Trim Request" in the Diagnose page of your software. (Mine was 90% in radio 69% software) Flight Test Put the training back on, nobody's gonna poke fun at you, he he look at him! HC set up and trimmed on the bench is not the same as trimmed for flight, it's going to have a mind of it's own, so be ready..."Think" all the trims for Ail and Elev are maxed out one way or the other. Flip flight switch until HC led glows red (off) or it will pinch the hell out of your fingers trying to stay level while carrying it. Assuming you just have normal 0, 25,50, 75, 100, throttle all the way down, flight mode switch to Hor. mode (not positon cause it will compete with you) flip off "throttle hold Ease into a hover, hold for 8 seconds so HC can "average" stick neutrals, this is where I went back to thumb on cyclic, flip Aux 2 to pos 0 then back to 1, if it's still not level, do it again or when different conditons merit, wind, hot/cold HC has built in temp sensor or you played with "Auto trim" on the bench and undid your field settings Flip flight mode switch to pos mode (down to normal for me) and between 3 & 9 feet heli should hold provided optics are not blocked by training gear like mine. Back to the software "read" the HC then go to Rc & trim tab, HC should have changed the "Internal Auto Trim Settings" to get a level flying bird, defaults were all 0's I still have to play around with gyro and do some fine tuning as I had some tail shake but I ran out of light. I don't know if there is a better way with a Dx7 and an AR7000 rec'r but this worked for me. Mel

Awesome Instructions
Hi Mel.
Thank you very much for those very complete instructions. Nice clear and step by step. I will find these extremely helpful when my heli is repaired! Now - do you fancy doing the complete write up from unpacking helicommand, fitting, cable placement, nice photo's.. hint, hint... maybe a nice powerpoint\word doc... Cheers for the help so far... You're welcome Russ
Reading this thread, one can see I had a lot of great Teachers along the way. They stuffed a lot of info in my little brain and some of it stuck so I just pieced some of it together. So many of us have Dx7's trying to set up HC No one should "Have to go thru Hell to get to Heaven" as nighflyr says lol You're the IT engineer in the group, so we vote YOU do the powerpoint he he Mel

Don't do it Ivor lol
Ivor,
You seem like such a happy person, my advice is Do Not put a Dx7 in your hands when a HC or Fly mentor is anywhere near you, stay happy! 7 channels and lack of switch assignment options I think caused a lot of pain on the Dx7 at least for me. I'll go back when I have a minute and review the procedure in case I missed a step, then add some more I've learned. I know when I don't do something for a while, I forget, even had to review some Finless videos to refresh how to get from her to there, the reason for the "push this button, toggle that. (so I can look back later, now how's that done?) lol I emailed Captron (Robbe in Europe) asking for their help and linked them to this thread. Maybe there is an easier way, but all I know is that my 450 went from drifting left to flat level when I auto trimmed. You and the others are giving a lot of help to the Fly Mentor owners in another thread and judging by the views, a lot of help is needed. Maybe we could have a "Sticky Library" for Stabilization step by step for various radios and systems so others in the Global community have a place to go, kinda like Heliguy has but step by step to get to each function and test? Ok, I did the Dx7/HC with all your help and my brain still hurts, Who's up next Mel

Hey Night,
I would Love to have either radio especially since I want to put a camera up Now I'm looking for a dual purpose camera for home & heli and back to more confusion with all the info out there... rolling shutters, CCD, CMOS, consecutive shooting without a servo to trigger and so on.... I do like the Panasonic Lumix FP3, just not sure if it would be good for AP? http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/compa...utive_shooting $229.00 Mel

Sweeeeet night!
Oh, now I see the catch, borrow one, get hooked then I HAVE to have it, great, just great... I'll tell you how bad it is.... The Eagles are coming to town and they ain't getting any younger, I've wanted to see them in concert for years. So I told my Wife at $180 a seat, I'd rather have a camera or radio instead. Shocked her so bad maybe I'll get to do both if I pout and mope around the house little more, I dunno Mel

Guys, take Ian up on his offer for the pdf version of the 2nd link, he emailed it to me some time ago and it really helped me in the learning about HC, including tons of info on the many functions of the HC software. Mel

Hi Guys. IMMMM BACKKKK , actually just getting ready for the weekend here in SoCal. Looks like its gonna rain so I will be reading and trying to get my HC dailed in.
I have been in wyoming and also buying a house so time is limited. Last time I think my only issue was too much gain. However I think I may have auto trimmed at the wrong time. I can remeber my first flight the heli came up level but had a lot of shaking ( too much gain). Thats kinda scary with a 600 the second flight it seemed to lift off a bit nose heavy then drifted left. The third flight I let it get too low while drifting and caught the blades. (opps) The nose heavy issue has me confused abit because before HC my heli was a bit tail heavy so after leveling the swash finless style I would always have to add two turns to lenthen the elevator rod. After that the heli would hover almost hands free. So......keep looking here saturday and sunday, I most likely will be looking for more help, although Mel did email the PDF and as he says its a big help This time I will set up with no sub trims and use HC to level the swash |

Good luck on you HC maiden!
Splitboarder,
Remember what I said in our pm's Training Gear, don't make me come down there On second thought, I love San Diego One more thing, once you get your 600 trimmed out, you're gonna want to fly Shorten your usual flight times as HC does take a little power & it does work the servos more doing it's magic, then adjust according to what goes back in the battery Without looking back on battery charge records to fine tune, wind, calm, I just took 30 seconds off my flight timer, seems good to go. Mel

Hey nightflyr,
What is the little screen and antenna on top of the radio, FPV? It's not on the 9303, so that must be the one you want to sell me Mel
