New 120A HV - capacitor pack!?
I just ordered a new hobbywing 120a HV from toysonics.com and was a little surprised today..
First cool thing, is that it came with the hobbywing phase sensor. I've been using this phase sensor that was sent to me to test for a month or more now and I really like it as you can use it with the "_U" firmware instead of te "_U_a" firmware. Second, it had an additional capacitor pack soldered onto the main leads right at the board!? Not sure why or what this is for! Any ideas!

Working great so far for me more than 50 flights with no issue!
I am using the "_U" firmware not the "_U_a" firmware.

That's weird! I wonder what the deal is. I thought this would be standard. Wonder I'd you got old stock or something!?

Hobbywings customer service is actually very good. I emailed them many times back when they were testing their phase sensors, and they were very helpful. You may try sending them an email and seeing if they will honor your recent purchase by sending you a phase sensor!

Just checked the HW website and I couldn't find anything about it including a phase sensor or the extra capacitor pack...
I emailed them earlier this morning so we'll see... As for Toysonic, I had ordered from them via Amazon so they took care of all the shipping/tracking notifications. |

NEWS UPDATE:
Hobbywing makes its own RPM sensor in Nov 2011, and this new product is sold as a standard accessary of Platinum-120A-HV, Platinum-70A-HV, FlyFun-100A-HV and FlyFun-80A-HV ESC. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but I would assume a standard accessory would be included with the product. I was unable to find the cap pack or phase sensor on their accessory pages????

Here's the answer from HW:
My question to HW:
I just received a new 120A HV ESC and was surprised to see it did not come with a phase sensor or an extra built in capacitor pack as I've seen on others Hobbywing 120A ESC's. Did I get a bad unit? Dan C. Response from HW: Hello, Dan It is not a bad unit, but it must be produced before December 2011. We put an additional RPM sensor and an external capacitor module in the packing plastic bag of Platinum-120A ESC since December 2011. Best Regards! Ok just a update, they finally got back to me and said it should be in stock by the end of this week. So hopefully they will be the new ones with the phase sensor and cap pack.
