LaTrax Alias quad
Not sure where to post questions on the Alias quad. Did a search and didn't find anything recent. I have an Alias and love it but am continually burning up motors. Can anyone share their experience with this quad and the motor issues?
Thanks |

Although, I don't have the quad you're talking about, I read the specifications of it. It has brushed motors. Those have the tendency to burn out quick. Especially, when you don't let them cool down before changing to a new pack of batteries.
In the future, before purchasing another quad or heli, check to make sure they have a brushless motor. They last longer.

Thanks for your thoughts. I have several brushed motor quads and one brushless motor quad. I was aware the brushed motors didn't have the longevity of the brushless but the Alias motors don't compare to other brushed motor quads I'm currently flying. I think the power and responsiveness of the Alias is far superior to my other quads so maybe that's the price you pay for time between motor changes.

I agree
The Alias is so much fun to fly. It's a great buy at $150.

With brushed motors, the higher the RPMs, the shorter the MTBF. Get some Tri Flow lube and lube up the motors say every 10 flights. I did that on my MQX's and they still have the OEM motors.

I was extremely close to buying one myself. I instead went with the 200QX. If you get the Alias look into these motors as they are direct drop in replacements and last much longer than stock! The factory lifetime rating is 5-6 hours.

+1 on that. This has always been SOP for my brushed stuff. I have a little Walkera Genius that I love buzzing around the house with to hone my skills, but its little brushed motor works very hard. Everyone told me to expect it not to last, so I bought a brushless conversion kit to have on standby but in the meantime, it gets lubed just as Seti describes. The brushless kit is still on standby, hundreds of flights later. A little v911 bird I have has at least a thousand packs through its brushed motor which still runs great. Not saying this will work for all if them - some are just POS to begin with - but it won't hurt. Just keep 'em lubed!

Thanks for the tip about lubricating the motors. I have the Alias, love it, but been through some motors. I may get he 200 QX just because I like my radio instead of the game controller on the alias. I am waiting for the micro motors to arrive and try them out. Also got those motors for by blade nano QX. Can't wait to try them.
For the money, the Alias has some high end features, like battery meter, I think that is great. If you don't have a radio already, then get the Alias. If you do, then the blade 200QX. But, I really love the alias and still fly it. |
