Default Opinions on blades without Brass insert.

Okay. So i'm anxiety ridden as it is. And I fly model helicopters which are pretty much a ton of spinning parts waiting to fly apart mid-air...

My question is of blades, specifically brass inserts.

I recently purchased a set of MS composite 660's for my Goblin630comp.

I've heard wonderful things about them and have yet to maiden with the new blades installed.

My only negative remark is the fact they do not have a brass insert. What effects, if any will this have on the longevity of the root mounting area?

any opinions on this subject are welcome.

Thank you,
-Markus

The brass insert is there only so it can be removed for larger diameter bolts. They are not necessary for flight. This topic has been vetted several times here on HF, the most recent was only about a month or so ago. Fly with no worries.

Then you're not gonna like what I'm about to tell you..
My friend Andreas told me that, when he examined a set of broken MSC blades, he found they are completely hollow inside. No steel wire, not lead, no foam, no D-spar, nothing. Just two layers of carbon fiber sheets and resin.

Well lets hope they stay together! They seem like an absolute top performing blade, certainly not hobbyking grade.

I suppose it's a good thing I do not really abuse my model. more big air and mild 3d stuff. I will keep in mind the construction of these blades.

Thank you,
-Markus

I've been running the MS 660's on my G630 for several months and have had no issues at all. As for being hollow.. possibly they have some filling near the root where they need strength and are hollow at the tip where they don't?

The tips have plug in 'caps' so it wouldn't be too difficult to get in and have a look.

Is there a good site that's based in the U.S. that sell MS composites?

I looked everywhere for them.

I finally ordered from http://www.world-of-heli.de/

http://www.world-of-heli.de/rotorbla...rotorblae.html

Shipping to USA from Germany was 9 days. I paid 130 USD shipped for them.

Wow, guess ill have to see what the 520s would cost. How good is the disk visability?

Visibility is very good due to the neon sticker (yes it is a sticker).
They do fly extremely well, mainly because of their low weight. I crashed a set which btw stayed together. I did saw them in half and indeed no safety wire to be found and completely hollow.
The end caps are fitted really well, you won't be able to get the caps out without some damage to the blade.
Because of the hollow construction I certainly would not use them if they have any dents in them: the risk of buckling is very high in that case.
Apart from all this these blades are very well made and the sets I have are balanced perfectly.

If there is no lead in them then there is no need for a wire.

I may have to get some MS Composite blades for my 6s Logo 600se to get the cyclic rates where I want them.

I managed to get 8 flights on the MS 660 rapids today.

Aside from making RPM settings and gearing changes the only thing I touched was collective pitch. from 12.5 down to 11.5 +/-

They track VERY well. Nothing out of the ordinary. No strange bobbles, no pitch up during full collective speed passes. Just 8 flights of all out fun.

Due to the width and extra blade surface area, i dropped 200rpms from my previous set of blades *rail 626's* (another fantastic blade)

I will continue to fly these blades and report any thing I find

Thank you,
-Markus

Right now I have my Rail 696s on the 600se. It should be interesting to see how they perform at just 1200-1300rpm.

Here is an email I sent to them and email received from MSC after asking a question about the brass insert.

"Hello and goodmorning.

My name is Markus Reschny from the USA and I recently ordered a set of MS composite 660 rapid blades.

I have NOT flown them yet, but tomorrow..
My question pertains to the brass insert or lack of. Most blades I've used have brass insert. Anything i should worry without it? Bolt rubbing
carbon material?

Also, do these blades have a safety wire installed for crash purposes?

They are beautiful blades and I'm looking forward to flying them.

Thank you for your time,
-Markus Reschny"

Hello Markus,
thank you for your interesting about our product.
Regarding your questions, I can a bit explain something about these blades. They are diferent compare all other blades on the market, we use special production method and technology. Rapid blades are made from high performance carbon prepreg materials using special hot press molding technology under high pressure and temperature in hardened steel molds, without core inside blade. This material and technology gives very stiff and hard construction with good crash resistance and safety. From this reason we do not use wire in leading edge inside blade. Regarding insert in the root of blade, we use it just in case heavier blades for speed race that are used on high rpm. This part of blade is full of carbon material and small hard plastic insert inside blade construction in this part. So it is enough. Unfortunately we can not produce blades in color versions due to the used technology. For these reasons, we supply blades only in Carbon design with stickers.
I hope you will be satisfied with flying conditions of our blades.

Thank you very much and have a nice day.

Any updates on your MS Composit Rapids?

I'm seriously thinking about saving up and ordering a bunch of them in different sizes to make the most of the shipping fee.

I've wanted to see a blade where it was all CF and no lead or wires to 'adjust' the c/g. This type of construction requires a high level of skill when working with composites. The fact that MS Composit can do this, is very impressive.

There is a lead strip in the MS Rapid blades: I cut through it while disecting the blades.

Really? Captured inside the CF of the blade then?

Yes, inside the leading edge.

I've heard both now. Some without and some with.

The E-mail clearly states there's no lead or wire. Very interesting!

They are great blades! I really have no issues with them. I dropped my rpms about 200 from previous and it flys fantastic. the 64mm wide 660's will certainly pull some current that's for sure.

They handle very well and full collective forward speed and have plenty of pop for me at 11.5 degrees of collective at 2100 on my SAB 630comp

What other blades have you tried that you can compare these to?

I've flown:
SAB 630 @ 2300 13* Collective
Rail 626 @ 2300 13* collective
MS 660 @ 2150 11.5 collective

The rails are quiet. Which tells me they are probably the most efficient blade overall.

But, so far I'm really enjoying the lower headspeed, wider/longer MS blades.
