Default Rave 450 Build

Hi I am just trying to figure out the components for a Rave 450. I am getting a new kit with a Scorpion 2221-6 motor, 325 mm blades.

I was going to buy used a HC3SX for FBL system. (I use them on all my Helis)

I found a used Futaba 9257 servo for the tail, a used YGE 60 amp ESC with internal BEC I can buy.

I have few two Thor 3S 2200 mAh 65C batteries that should work ? I will have to buy a few more batteries.

I have some old JR Racing Z3650 servos I had from a use 450. I have some new gears for them. I can rebuild them and use them, they should work.

I have a Futaba R6203SB I can use.

So I think I should be able to build it. If you have any ideas let me know. Thanks

Yea that should work well. With 325 blades you get good power out of the -6 with 3s. I would suggest 4s with the -10 motor if you want a bit more power. Especially if you stretch it, you will need 4s or 6s.
2200 65c's give good punch with a -6 motor though. You will be happy.

Can you run 350 mm blades with the stock boom ?

I think I will try it as a light 3S setup first with 325 mm blades.

I see you can run 350mm blades with the stock boom.

The YGE 60 was sold so I was thinking about a Castle Lite ESC, 75 or 50. I always error on the side of caution so I was thinking a 75 ?

Depends on if it can fit somewhere easily in the frame, I guess. I'm running a YGe 60 in my mini protos with 360's and it handles that no problem. I do miss the logging and programming of castles though

I really like the YGE 60 ESC. The Castle would be a option as well. Not sure. Maybe keep my eyes open for one.

Castle 50 or Hobbywing Platinum Pro V3 50A would be a good fit. I have the HW in an X3 with 360mm blades with internal BEC and it has been good.

I ordered the Castle 50 Lite, Savox SH1357 tail servo, 2 - 2200 mAh 3S batteries.

I know this thread is 4 years old now. Just curious, how did it go with the 450, what electrics did you settle on? Do you still have it?

I got a new kit last year and will be building it this year and will soon start gathering servos, motor, ESC and everything.

One option I have is that I've got two Beam 450s and might canibalize one as it has a Scorpion 50 amp ESC, 2221-8 motor. I'll probably go with the same Turnigy servos I used on my other Beam.

The kit is flybarred but I will plan on converting it to FBL.

Hey how are you doing?

The electronics you are planning look fine, I ran mine on the 6s scorpion, HW 50a, and turnigy HV servos and it flew spot on. The one problem the 450 suffers with is eating the tail drive gears. Unless the mesh is pretty much spot on it'll strip the front tail drive gears. I always tended to put the black hardened ones in but I still had one set of those strip down once.

Other than that the Rave 450 is just lovely to fly

Haven’t been on this forum for a long time. I didn’t end up building the Rave 450. I decided at the time to keep my larger Helis. Still miss my Rave Ballistic Helicopters!! It’s too bad the factory didn’t keep updating the designs to keep interest up on the Rave brand.

As it's so quiet here, I'll update my progress.

My setup is, savox 0263mgs on the swash and Align DS520 on the tail, Scorpion 2221-8, YEP 60 amp ESC. (3s and running 325mm blades).

I first flew it last year with a Spartan FBL and had a constant pitching-up issue in fast forward flight that had me baffled. So I set it aside and then the weather turned sour for the winter.

So I now have a Spirit on it and flew it for the first time with the Spirit yesterday and it's pretty good so far. No pitching up or any other bad behaviour. Just need to up the piro rate before the next time out.
