@dantemcc

Sure did.... Wilson suggests using CA to glue the inner race of the bearings to the bevel gears (the gears that mesh with the Torque Tube)... I suppose he didn’t mention the front bevel gears, but does it matter? Its literally the same thing.

A prior poster asked about what type of grease and I could not find a reply within this thread.

Will liquid silicone grease (like Harvey's brand you find in the plumbing section as home improvement stores) work for gear lubrication?

Just don’t use anything petroleum based... silicon will work, some use that... others prefer lithium grease or some synthetic.

Just discovered another tip although I don't suspect it has been the cause of many if any strips but worth mentioning none the less. The rearmost bearing that the rear gear slides into must be seated all and I mean ALL the way in so it is completely flush with the tail box.

I have just had a small crash and spent a bit of time trying to work out why the mesh seemed tighter than usual. I had to replace both the bearing and the gear and it turns out that my bearing this time was protruding by no more than a gnat's knacker. Using a chock of wood and a hammer, the bearing finally seated properly and the mesh is now spot on again.

There is a tool made for pressing on and pulling off, torque tube gears-I think it was made for Align machines, but I did use it, successfully, on the Fusion.

It makes life a lot easier.

If I can find a link to it, I will post it.

That tool would have saved me at least a few hours sitting in my garage floor with a hammer and random tools/blocks/etc. trying to get a perfect fit or get a bearing off a gear!

My front bevel gear moves in and out quite a bit. When it's out all the way the mesh is too tight. When this happens I think it's been contributing to a bad vibration. I'm going to be working on it this weekend, but I assume I'm going to end up gluing it.

Hey guys - So I just received my Fusion 50 with the black gears. Has the stripping issue been solved or is there something I still need to do?

If so what's the simplest way to do it?

Thanks in advance

Just asking cuz it's kinda hard to determine if the problem has been addressed/solved by Outrage.

Just work through the points in this sticky and you will be fine. What you may well find with your new kit is that the boom block now holds the gear solidly and so there should be no need for sanding.

I just won a Fusion 50 from Helidirect and I am building it now. It has the black gears and it does have some play in the front TT gears. (Side issue, the main shaft will not go thru the swash, only goes half way in, argh). Nice build otherwise.

I really dont understand how you guys can strip the main gear.

I'm using the old white main gear, not CNC, and after 30 or 40 flights the gear is pretty good.
My governor gain is set to Medium(25) in Castle Creations, so... I really dont understand this post ha.

Thanks.

I'm with you man... I retired my original gear after around 430 flights. Not because I stripped it, but because I had a motor/ESC fire that really charred it and I was afraid it may have been compromised. I still have it.

Depends on how hard you fly though... some guys fly really hard, with a lot of pitch and 700 sized motors.

Yeah, I agree with you about the flight style.
My flight is not like Tareq ofcourse, but I do some harde maneuvers like Tic-Tocs, Funnels, Rainbows... so...

Gov gain wasn't stripping main gears oddly enough, it was stripping tail gears. The main gear strips under 3 conditions normally:

1/ Bad mesh

2/ Using a 700 class motor

3/ In cold weather when the plastic gets more brittle.

Smile What happens when you want to change your gears?

Alright guys!
I've digested this thread as I'm building my Fusion.
Something has struck me about the gear gluing thing, if you glue both bearings on the tail end of the TT gear, how do you get it apart to change the gear if/when it does eventually strip?

Cheers all.

With a pliers and of some effort it comes off fine.
