I too will be trying out FBL soon with the same mechanical setup and beastx. As i'm still training, I like the fact that the blade grips break during a crash avoiding much damage to the rest of the heli.

cheers,

I'm going FBL soon with it as well. I'm waiting on blades and a tail pitch slider from a mishap last week. I had severe binding in the tail and caused the whole thing to basically eat itself on spool up.

Anyway, I bought this http://rcdumbthumbs.com/fes2bladesys...ss5mmmast.aspx at my local hobby shop for $100 (retails for $250). I already bought an Ikon unit last week, so I don't need the FBL gyro that came with the Gaui conversion kit.

Does anyone want the new in box GU 365 Gyro for $40.00? I know nothing about this particular model, so I don't know performance, reliability etc. I just thought someone might be interested to put it on a 200 or something (lower risk model).

You might have to use that for spare servo leads in the end. Its old tech now.

Post it in the for sell section. Who knows.

BTW, are you sure this will fit your Gaui? I think the Hurricane has a 8mm shaft.

I would send that back - that head is for 325 / 450 size helis and won't fit the Hurricane and the 365 was never well regarded, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

This is the right Gaui part for the hurricane 425/550 FBL.
http://rcdumbthumbs.com/G-204682.aspx

However, you might find better heads than this at the same price.

The limitation with this head is that the total cyclic throw is limited than what it should be on FBL heads. Notice the difference in these 2 heads. You will see a smaller gap in the gaui head between the head (mast) and the arm where the link attaches. This limits the blade grip throw.

I do have the one for the 425 / 550. I attached the wrong link. I guess I really didn't realize that you can put such a variety of heads on there. I don't have a super powerful setup anyway to allow thar much pitch. Running a Turnigy Typhoon 600 motor. Actually the pitch range is more than the plastic head, just eyeballing it.

Matt,

Maybe you are right with the metal head having slightly more throw than the plastic one.
I've noticed limited flip/roll rates with my plastic FBL head due to the limited cyclic throw. Should be OK for sport flying though.

I've got my eyes on the X4 head. This thread is very informative and shows how to fit X4 or X5 heads on the hurri. The low rider look is also cool.

Yeah, I'm happy enough with it. I originally was only going to go with the plastic head, but decided to go that route. My tail pitch links and control lever finally came in yesterday, so I replaced my shattered tail. This was a usedk heli, and it turns out the guy did God knows what to the motor, among other things. It turns out the brass spacers in the links were too short, so there was binding that wasn't too bad until I put larger tail blades on. Anyway the main blades went right through the tail.

Hoping to get it flying next weekend. It's together now, just waiting on blades and need to install my FBL gyro.

In my case it was the position with less vibration.

At first I put it below on a plywood platform I put on the bottom of the frame, but it was difficult to get to to adjust the pots, so I have moved it to the gyro platform with this newest rewire. Not as pretty, but easier to work on. Besides that let me put the ESC on the lower plate where it used to be so it is not under the canopy and should breath easier.
