Default os 50 hyper question

I got a used OS50 to put in a new heli. Guy told me everything is good. Is there anything I should do before I put it in. I wanted to check the bearings but have no one around to help me and have never torn an engine down. Would you take it apart and check things over or just stick it in and see how it sounds and acts? Anything I should be looking for? Any advice on what I should or could do would be great. Thanks

Default inspecting a used engine

Maybe this will get you started. The first thing I might do is a preliminary check of the carb. With a piece of tubing connected to the fuel inlet . Blow through the tube and move the carb barrel.noticing the airflow "feel" from closed to open. This will only verify that the carb in not clogged at the delivery. Moving on. You might want to remove the head, piston and sleeve and inspect for scaring and or marring of the piston, sleeve and ring. Remove the back plate and check for excessive wear on the back plate. Take a look at the back bearing. Maybe you can determine it's condition. Check the connecting rod for excessive play on the crankshaft connecting rod pin. This should give you a pretty good idea of the engine's condition..
I hope this is of some small help.
Regards

If you are comfortable with partial engine disassembly, remove the head, sleeve and piston. Now you can turn the crank without any other resistance. It should be completely smooth with NO resistance or gritty feel. If you have either of these, then a complete tear down is called for.
