Default Best hex drivers

Hi all,

What are the best hex drivers in your opinion?

For the most part I've been using those align ones. I bought a set of turnigy ones for when you need two.

I seem to be stripping screws like a mofo though so I need a brand new set.

What are the best ones out there? Don't want to spend silly amounts though, (£30-40, $50-70).

I don't want those kylin ones as I'm slightly trypophobic!

Thanks.

MIP is the best I have used. I have heard scorpion drivers are up there too. I don't know about prices in the UK, but there's a Mip set on amazon with 1.5, 2, 2.5 for $32, free shipping.

Larger than 2.5 and quality doesn't matter so much. You didn't mention what sizes you need.

I have a set of Align that I've been using for a few years. What I like about them is that they're color coded so I know that say black is 1.5 and blue is 2.

I haven't rounded over anything with them.

I will say that I bought a 1.5mm Scorpion and it's really nice. Has a really good pivot thing at the top. Much better than the Align set, but it's not color coded.

I bought a Hudy toolkit and I reckon it's brilliant. Could torque up the bolts higher than I was comfortable with and no marks on the drivers or the screws. They cost a fair bit and will set off your trypophobia though.

Personally I think it's worth buying the expensive stuff now, as you'll have less headache in the long run, especially if you build a reasonable amount. I've heard good things about MIP and I saw a pic of a rounded out bolt that the MIP managed to get out fine (rounded off with another tool). Don't know what they look like though. Remember, buy cheap, buy twice!

Sorry, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 ideally. My align 3 is a champ though so that's less important.

I can find two types of MIPs:

http://www.apexmodels.com/gbu0-prods...qS-hoC3l3w_wcB

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...363564&alt=web

I really like that the first set has the size on them, as a previously poster said the colour coding of the aligns is very convenient.

Both of those have the size written on them in the same size text (quite small). The speed tips are meant to go in some type of handle.

Just for reference the "handle" on the speed tips is 1/4" hex. Would be nice for an electric screwdriver I guess.

I see some of the newer MIPs are color coded now, at least in the picture.

Can't better WIP for every day use. For small stuff the Bondhus stuff is really good and their ProHold feature really good for handling small bolts. The ball is very slightly oversize and an interference fit with the bolt thus holding it on.

I'm confused, the first link seems to show the size written fairly large? And with handles, not just the tip?

I don't know, maybe the link doesn't work right in the U.S. The apex hobby link for me shows speed tips, no handles.

Size Stamped on tip base and includes wrap decals/shrink with size for each tool. That is from the ebay link.
I got the wraps for mine.

+1 for MIPs, I got 3 of them 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5, they are excellent, heck they even unscrewed some screws I have stripped with other drivers. The only thing I would like for them to have a rotating end piece at the end of the grips (similar to those Eflite one's have) which makes rotating the driver very easy. Other than that they are surely of very high quality.

I purchased a decent set. Can't remember the brand or price. And they worked good for a while. But started having problems out of the 1.5 driver. So I reverted back to my Ole-faithful tools. I still use the drivers for running the bolts in and out. But I use these for tightening and breaking loose. I don't have to worry about stripping heads anymore. Now I have to worry about over tightening.

Can't remember when it started, car guys maybe? but colors were established years ago for all the standard SAE and metric drivers. It sure makes life easier for old eyes to be able to grab for blue when I need a 2.5mm or red for a 2mm instead of trying to read microscopic print.

My favorite Gyro activated screwdriver

My set with the shrink wrap by MIP I also have the imperial one. MIP are the best.

I also use the Dewalt electric screwdriver mentioned before with the bits,. A combo made in hobby heaven.

Thanks everyone, I just ordered the set of three MIP speed tips. I think I would prefer the ones with the larger translucent handles, but they don't seem to come as a set and they're about $20 each.
