Back to basics then, pull the motor and put a stock motor in to see if it flies better.

While you have the motor out make sure everything else is spinning freely.

If that fixes it then you know the motor or the connection to the motor is the problem.

I don't have that type of motor but going by what I have learned form the old school brushed motors in rc cars, make sure the wires going to the brushes on the motor aren't hanging up the brushes, give them a little tug to make sure the brushes move freely.

Check to make sure you have a good connection at the battery and the motor.

Another thing to check is the motor mount screws, make sure they aren't too long and hitting the armature inside the motor.

I just looked at a picture of the extreme motor and it doesn't appear to have changeable brushes like the old school brushed car motors, disregard my advice about the brushes.

I broke a ball joint off the flybar ,so had order a new one.I replaced it with a carbon fiber/ aluminum one and also put an aluminum swash on it.Then I decided to go all out and upgrade almost everything.I just ordered aluminum blade grips, tail motor mount ,anti rotation collar, extended 8" boom ,vertical fin and a new canopy all in red.Cost a little over a$100,Am I crazy for spending this much on this bird?Should be pretty cool looking when the mods are done.Mike

Its just bling, far as I'm concerned, long tail, throws center of gravity way off, all aluminum adds weight, and causes more damage in a crash, the swash and main shaft are worth it in my opinion

when i took the xtreme motor off i noticed on top of motor, there is two small brushes, where the wires connect, the one on the negative side looked to be barely touching, i removed brace bent inward, plugged motor in to dead battery and it jumped out of my hand, seemed to work fine, also the screws that came with, seemed to short so i used my stock motor screws, how should these brushes be positioned ?its raining here so cant get outside to fly

I'm not sure what you mean by ''positioned'' the brushes make contact with the commutator to conduct electricity.

how much tension should be on them barely touching, or pressing firmly against the commutator

I cant give you an answer for that question, I could tell if it was right by feel but I have no way of conveying that to you.

I can tell you there should be some pressure though.

ummmm, well like i said the one on negative side seemed barley touching so i bent so its got pressure, if to much it would burn brushes ,correct? also im going on assumption ,i replaced with my stock motor but its raining, haven't had chance to put it in the wind

I guess the best thing for you to do would be make it feel like the one on the positive side, basically you want enough pressure to keep the brush from bouncing off the commutator.
