Default Ion-X2 - Flybarless (!)

Do you feel depressed?
Get an Ion-X2 with VStabi system on it, it will put a big smile on your face.

Its actually completely utterly insane!

With paddles and 690 blades I could bog it pretty hard, Yesterday I put on the Vstabi and put on 710 blades instead

Flying it was just insane, +-14 degree pitch, hardest part was to make the tictocs stay low, it was really hard :glasses2:

Only sad part is that I need to get 3 vstabi system more now, gonna hurt my wallet.

Some might remember I tried it on my Stratus before, with mixed results.
First, this time Ive come up with a better head solution, not stealing torque from the servo's, second, last time I had the Tail Torque compensation reversed, forgot that MA has the tail blades on the other side...

Here is my solution for the head.
The cone shaped distances used are from Logo VBar head.

Setup:
Ion-X2
Actro 32-3 at 11.26:1 ratio
PowerJazz
2 x 6s1p 5000 = 12s1p 5000
VBlades 710, 105 on tail.

Gonna try to shoot a video as soon as I have the opportunity.

should add that swashplate driver I use is a Vario partnumber 68/20, of course you can DIY one if you want.
Also, if your doing this way, check length of link-arms at full and min pitch with full aileron/elevator, if you have "wrong" you get tension on the ball-link on the head and it could pop off.

I already have V2 of the head setup ready , will try that tomorrow if weather approve.

(a tad more cyclic throw)

Saddest part about my ion is the canopy, you can see its cut off in the back, I know now why you shouldnt use ball-links to snap on the canopy in the back. (it got loose and hit the blades) (painted by me, so I have hours of prepping again...)

My ion is nice, but sorry to say, I prefer my E-stratus, on that it doesnt matter what size of battery you put, CG will be perfect.
For the most you dont feel the CG issue on the Ion, except for Elevator tictocs and high piro rate, but it sure feels then, in moves like in piroflips.

One thing is for sure, regardless of heli, flybarless is the way to go!
I will prolly try the CSM setup for my nitro stratus since the Vbar IC sensor isnt released yet.

Second flight today, mostly trying some settings and trying to get a feel for the heli.

Head V3 is good, however, will try metal grips next.

Since posts are gone here is the pictures of the current head Im trying in the video.

Man that was cool. Fast climbouts. Were those the 6s 4900's or the 3700's?

While waiting for MA parts, I found out that Raptor 90 upgrade bladegrips from QuickUK is a drop-in replacement on MA "flybarless".
They are not optimal since ball-link is a bit too close to the head (resulting in about 13 degree cyclic pitch)

But it sure flied nice with it, you could surely feel the difference with stiffer blade grips.

Pictures of the head is coming soon.

Here is my final solution,
I wont stride towards any more changes since this flew so good its no point.

Its hard to put Raptor parts on a MA machine, but what do you do :p

Blade grips are a drop-in-replacement, spindle, thrust bearings etc are MA stock.
the linkarms are not 100% centered on the hub, but using a swashdriver to correct phasing, it doesnt matter.

OBS: I moved the linkarms on the servo one hole closer to center, loosing geometry, but gyro will correct, cyclic pitch is perfect now at +-11 degrees, maximum torque and resolution from the servos

Final setup is:
Ion-X2
Actro 32-3 MAX (will change to Neu 1915 when H version is released)
11.26 gearratio
PowerJazz
VBlades 710, 105 on tail
VStabi with BlueTooth
Fromeco Arizona + 5200mah pack (counterweight..)
3 x JR8715 with HD arms, 9256 on tail.

sorry about the Align straps, but they where perfect length :p

I'm thinking about lagging edge instead of leading edge control, have you tried this MRmel?

Why do you want that?

Leading edge is much smoother then trailing where it will be touchy, I think VBar is "touchy" as it is already when leading edge control.
