Default V2 FBL Link Direction

According to the V2 Oct 2011 manual it looks like the links from the blade grip to the swash has the “A” facing the inside of the blade grip. Where it attaches to the swash the “A” faces outward. My understanding of how the links work is that the “A” always faces out.

Is this unique to FBL heads? This is my first FBL heli so I don’t know.

I see that on page 6

I would always put the links on with the "A" facing outwards.

Maybe it is a safety thing? If you pop a link, it will go in and you will not lose control? Flybar heli's have a lot less force to the grips, and I have read of people landing a heli with flybar and 1 blade after popping a grip link. I don't think that would happen with just 1 blade and no flybar..

I've always gone A's out and that's what my Aug. 2011 manual shows (Pg 6).

If you *were* to face them in, the only way to get them on and off without ruining the non-A, tight side of the link would be to take the balls off, install them first and then put them back on. And the link wouldn't go over the grip ball that way anyway- it's too big.

And I just don't see how it's possible that a link could pop in like Greybird is theorizing. All of the forces on the head would make them go out (not to mention hitting the button on top, which is probably the main culprit in crashes but by that time you're already on the ground. Haha). If someone is popping grip links in flight, they should have been replaced before he/she took off because they were too loose to begin with.

I'm going to put the "A" out. It must be a typo in the manual.

in talking to the align guys at the show that manual is for a heli that will never be produced...it should not be used as a build manual.

The latest 550E V2 kit is already out and in the hands of several of us already.

There were pages of a 550 manual noted as the V2 "October 2011" manual. I specifically asked Jeff Fassbinder about this. Helical main gear, 600 style blade grips, etc. He indicated to me that those pages were a "misprint" that was mistakenly released.

So the question, has anyone purchased a 550E V2 that came with the helical main and pinion geras and the two part 600 style main blade grips as opposed to the normal straight cut gears and normal 550 style blade grips.

Yes, they are available. I purchased a 550E V2 kit from helidirect on black friday that came with the october 2011 manual, the helical main gear and pinion and the 600 blade grips with the removable arms.

Then Fassbinder is very confused or misinformed. Very odd.
